Does size matter?

Now we are entering a new agricultural era post brexit, is there a place for a sub 500 acre farm, be it arable, livestock, mixed or whatever, or do you rent to larger neighboors, retire and twiddle your thumbs till the grim-reaper comes!!

A sub 500 acres farm, bought and paid for, no rent/ mortgage, run as a one man band, and using well bought S/H gear would weather the storm better than much larger outfits IMO.

In 2015 the Average BPS payment to Farmers was about £16k which puts the average Farm size at around 200 acres !!

Builders only have a few tools that fit in a pail and van, probably worth the same as a set of tyres on a tractor, and they do ok, so there will always be a way to make a living irrespective of size if you have a base.

Fudge that for a laugh, no point farming 500 acres to have to pay tax to keep the lazy fudger on the dole, 100 or 200 well farmed should be plenty
