Does size matter?

There's a saying in my family, Being your own boss is worth half a living, (so long as the half that's left pays the bills) also a study I read found that the people with the highest IQ did not necessarily have the highest incomes, conclusion, that the intelligent realise there is more to life than pound notes, and the perceived status they convey.
Na its because intelligent types lack commonsense and drive to make money, commonsense business acumen from a poor background with drive to get up in the morning to make money type of person do best imo.

I was reading in FW that the average loss per cow for beef is £128. Maybe you should have only sold 50 as you would have done better........
Have a look on eBay. There are 'businesses' on there selling everything and anything at a loss. I assume they are either avoiding VAT registration or simply running up huge credit with suppliers before pulling the plug.
I'm afraid boasting about turnover does very little for me these days.
Dont belive everything you read in that rag.

Not read the entire thread but if BPS goes it will be the big guys that are hit worst, the loss of the sub is much more significant to them than a smaller farm that can fill the gap in otherways

I think the future is better for the smaller farm than it is the big guys in the UK - if you want to do corporate farming of 10's of K's of Ha then the UK is the wrong country for a start !

It will be way cheaper than paying a human.
But we will have to pay humans.

There is a scene in one of the transformer movies I was watching with my son at the weekend where the farmer is sat on his veranda and the combines are harvesting the maize crop - think its not far from how it will be
It is probably a topic for another thread, but at a conference the other week Elon musk and co brought up the matter of robots and jobs and reckon in 15 years 40% of the workforce won't be needed, so we have to decide whether to let it happen and pay everyone a living wage (dole). Or we draw a line in the sand and say no more mechanisation.
They reckoned even doctors lawyers lorry drivers etc can easily be replaced by robots.

How long have computers been invented, to have one that could compete with a human brain it would have to be the size of planet earth , please dont make me laugh if you think your stupid bot can replace one of my straw warriors drivers
