Does this type of call blocker exist?

We are getting 2 or 3 silent calls a day plus the odd gentleman from India. In our house we have 4 telephones, 2 with displays and 2 without. To be honest, we have never got into the habit of looking at the displays to see if we recognize the number. I understand that some call blockers require you make a list of acceptable numbers and they will also build up a list of banned ones. There are loads of people who I would want to talk to if they rang up, but I won't necessarily know their number.

What I want is a device that will just create a banned list and block calls from the numbers on it. I would want to be able to add a number to the list just by entering a code from any of my phones, when I answer a nuisance call. If I had to press a button on the device, that would only be any good if I was answering the call with the phone that was adjacent to it.

I can thoroughly recommend Truecall. I suggest you speak to them, explain what you want, and ask them if they could set up your own equipment to do that. I will lay odds they can but I think you will probably need caller display just to get it to work properly. (You don't have to visually check numbers).

Just checked and I have over 161 numbers blocked! I say 'over' because I have also blocked certain area codes as the nuisance callers kept changing their numbers. I have also blocked international calls as I can't think of any foreigners who can't read and write that I'd want to talk to! I get hardly any nuisance calls now. Bliss!

On the area code front they are getting more devious all the time, have one lot phoning me up and it comes through as my local code so always gets answered.

This works for us, suprising how many of these junk callers rotate their numbers to keep getting through, but after a few weeks our calls regarding free boilers for those on benefits ceased, We were geting 4+ a day previously

Just tried to sign up to it. Apparently I dont have a BT line, they are quite happy taking my money at the moment so just as useless as usual. I would rather put up with the calls than have to actually speak to BT.

Had this on my mobile for a year or so - works great and highly recommended

We had mixed success with the BT blocker. What seemed to make the difference was actually listening to the automated call to the end, then you can press 9 or whatever they say to "be removed from the cal list". Surprisingly, it worked.

The small inconvenience of Truecall is that I have to check unknown incoming numbers on Google (if they are scammers, someone will usually have reported them to one of the several anti-scam sites), then get up the Truecall Control panel, type in the number, and press a button on the machine to get the number blocked. But it's worth it for the peace and quiet!

I don't understand, why do you have to check an unknown number?

If you get an unwanted call, and we had 3 silent ones yesterday, whatever the number is, all I want to do is press a button on any phone in the house to block that number in future.

It's no use having to press a button on the actual device when you are in a different part of the house.

A lot of the calls have the number withheld anyway. How does a call blocker deal with that?

How do you know it is an unwanted call? I've found another two unidentified numbers on my caller display as "missed calls" today. These could easily be a neighbour phoning to say I have stock out (as has happened).

If Google doesn't say it is a scam, I might call back. If it's a known scam, I add the number to the list. Both these were scammers today and are now listed. If someone is withholding their number, I don't want to talk to them anyway and they can write me a letter!:)

I know someone who has a phone system that blocks every call, unless you accept it, it won't get through
You can have a list of safe numbers.
Has to be disabled for bps online though. And vat, or you don't get the codes through.

It's an unwanted call if I pick up the phone and there's nobody there, or it's a man from India or it's a recorded message offering me a new boiler. I don't want a system which intercepts the call and then asks me if I want to be connected, as I would still have to go and answer the phone.
