Does Topcon now do auto-turn at headlands?

So it seems as if auto-turn is now available, but apparently it's only available on new X35 screens as an upgrade. Why can this not happen on X30s? I know X35s have more processor power, but I don't see that it needs so much computing power to turn round at the headland. It seems, from the limited amount on Google, that this feature comes with Horizon 4.02 software. Can this not be run on an X30 screen?

Do x30 and x35 both run same operating system ?

Not sure what a x35 does that a 30 can’t ?

What reason would be upgrade worth it ?

I was thinking about how you would get your tractor to initiate a headland sequence at the end of a run without user input? Can you get a signal feed out of the Topcon system to initiate it, or would a human still have to press a headland management button?

Think you could create a trigger

Looking at how the sprayers we have ordered integrate with the iso and x30 it seems just about anything is possible !

There would presumably be no incentive to lure you into upgrading to an X35.

I'm already facing this with VarioGuide after AGCO bought it back in house from Topcon - they are still technically supporting the Topcon AGI-4 receivers, but recent firmware updates have sidelined some key new features which are only available on systems running the Trimble or NovAtel receivers.

Tis the way of the world.

Surely a business for someone to support and uograde the older hardware ?

I think you maybe right that the only reason a x30 can’t upgrade to headland turn is that they want to sell x35’s !

I follow one of the engineers from topcon on twitter. He is a farmer here.

Apparently the auto turn will only be on the x35 and x25. The x30 has run out of power to be able to do any more functions and they won’t risk it becoming unreliable if given more functions.

From what I’ve seen of John Deere( who’ve had it a while.) when you get close to the headland it comes up on screen and you have to press a left or right arrow.

ha-ha-ha... good joke. The X30 could run much more options, but they have to sell consoles as well. They acquired Wachendorff in 2014 , so it is time to see the return on investment..... It is ridiculous and outrageous from Topcon to replace the x30 with the x35.

Which is obviously your view. They will not allow a console to become unreliable which is why they won’t allow the x30 to have more features.

The x25 is a much more powerful unit just in a smaller package. No one is forcing you to upgrade.

btw is it fare to charge 950 Euros to unlock Autoturn on headland on X25/35 ?

I don’t like all unlock charges but the development time needs to be recouped somehow. Autoturn is an option that won’t appeal to many so why make it a standard charge when buying a console.

I think it is more expensive on jd screens but haven’t checked recently

but I don't see that it needs so much computing power to turn round at the headland.

Coming from someone who has actually programmed auto headland turns, yes it does. A lot. It would pretty much double the code of what is already going on.

Also in this world of autonomous tractors being talked about as the future today, anyone else find it ironic that manufacturers won't let auto turn actually auto turn without constantly having to hit a button?

I’m genuinely surprised it’s that compute intensive, especially given how much grunt a recent-ish smartphone or tablet has with tons of memory and processor cores like they’re going out of fashion.

Now if it was self driving car, I’d be like OK, there’s a heck of a lot of computation going on there!

But auto turn on a tractor? Just some moderately complex geometry right?:eek::D

You can tell me to sod off now :notworthy::ROFLMAO:

I stand to be corrected but I think the Trimble system allows automatic auto turn.https://twitter.com/i/status/1014212321613418497
