Dog stealing

Stealing a dog is a disgusting crime but it always amazes me how people keep their very precious pets and valuable working dogs in kennels in a yard or the bottom of the garden. A cordless grinder will easily cut through any lock. I have lockable kennels outside the back door where they eat their dinner or go when i'm in a meeting otherwise they are always with me and sleep in the house every night which is totally secure. It's not worth the risk keeping them outside and would break my heart if they were taken.

We have a Doberman and I get worried someone will have him away. Might look scary but really just a faster, Rottweiler coloured Great Dane tbh.

I did wonder with spaniels and collies etc whether dying their coat might work. Wouldn’t be so easy to shift on and noticeable in the van.

You might be onto something. Dyeing their white bits pink or blue with permanent dye would make them less than desirable and too hot to handle perhaps.

Permanent pink dye at Amazon

Permanent blue dye at Amazon

Think it is as bald rick says its because of the virus people at home bored getting payed to be bored and they think ah pet dog !
Then when virus is calmed and people have stuff to do there will be an almighty post Xmas style dog dumping when they can't cope or can't be arsed to deal with dogs .
Then these scroats that are robbing them will move onto next 'commodity ' to deal in and all the poor dogs will be begging for a home then 😐

Aren’t the RSPCA already reporting an increase in the numbers of dogs getting dumped, once they’re no longer cute puppies.:(

There must be a way of securing your dogs so that you would be woken by an alarm or something if anyone attempted to steal them. I would be pretty pished off if someone stole my dogs, far more so than if tools etc were stolen.

The trouble with big dogs roaming the yard at night etc is that folk can surely drug, kill or injure them in some way if they really want in.

Simple. Train them to bark. 😂

issue is if you write something on a forum saying you will commit a crime against an intruder and god forbid your never in that situation its pre meditated once they pull it back up if it all ends up in the hands of the law,

If you have a fear of being ransacked in the night have a clear plan of how you can deal with the situation with minimal fall out, if you need to defend yourself or your family from somone attempting harm you can use equal force so stoving them in with an axe as soon as you seem them isnt the way forward, but usually sadly calling the police may be a very slow affair and your usually on your own, once they break in your house and on their way up the stairs theyre not coming to check on you are they. a friend in the police one night in the pub said dont even attempt fire arms- risk is they get it off you and blow you away or raid your cabinet. If theyre in the house its a different story, in the workshop your not at risk. However friends father did have to have a pikeys van scrapped they'd left when disturbed once he'd pinned it to the floor with the loading shovel.

Anything which can be seen as pre meditated will result in you being in a lot more trouble than these scum.

Time is ticking to when there's going to be a serious incident or death involved with this most sickening crime , just what can we do

The flippant answer would be "dig the hole a bit deeper, police cadaver dogs wont pick up a scent 20 feet under a muck heap 🤫".

But the serious answer is we all need to up our security, and stop being such a soft target for the types who prey on innocence and trust.

How do we reduce the risk from these utter low lifes , can live with the daily risk of workshop being cleared out , quad bike disappearing, Land Rover not there in the morning, the diesel tank emptied on a windy night , but if my dogs disappear !!!! Time is ticking to when there's going to be a serious incident or death involved with this most sickening crime , just what can we do
Get some geese
Lowlife are sh!t scared of them

Tattoo inside their ears and on their bellies.

Could even do the dogs too.
They'll still get nicked but then dumped or killed when they find the tattoos. The thieves aren't going to stop to check if they're marked or microchipped before they grab them.

At least dyeing their white bits is a clear visual deterrent, which although it sounds daft, would probably work. Geese in the yard would put them off too.
