Dog stealing

Major issue. No controls whatsoever on unscrupulous dealers and breeders is seeing the prices of dogs going stratospheric. So, as long as this is the case, dog theft will prosper.

The police are not addressing it with sufficient severity, and of course first it's the dog, then it's anything else that can be quickly loaded into a van.

Rural theft is skyrocketing again.

There must be a way of securing your dogs so that you would be woken by an alarm or something if anyone attempted to steal them. I would be pretty pished off if someone stole my dogs, far more so than if tools etc were stolen.

The trouble with big dogs roaming the yard at night etc is that folk can surely drug, kill or injure them in some way if they really want in.

We had a nasty collie that was loose day and night. Anyone weighing in grain (Contract drying & storage etc) knew to stay in the cab and wait for us, as she'd sneak round the tractor and bite like hell.....The few used to brave it, when they found out we would give a bottle of wine to anyone bitten. Poor girl got her face smashed in by the gyppos on night....Pretty much tore half of her face off....She survived, but was obviously never quite the same....They still stole the diesel.

Get some geese
Lowlife are sh!t scared of them

They stole some geese that were being kept on the farm, about 5 years ago. Walked them up the road in the middle of the night, and loaded them into a van.....There were about 250 of the barsteward things, and were put in a field downwind of the house as they were so noisy. The thieves had to walk them past the house, to get them into the van....Taking about 20 each night. So few were going missing, that the owner didnt notice.....It was only when I was filling the sprayer at about 2am & noticed half a dozen cuddled up under the sprayer, that anyone clocked it. The owner ended up leaving a sign on the field telling the thieves to just take them. Maybe guineafowl might be better?

Jack Russell seen being picked up locally by a Silver van. CSI social media came up with an address where the van was a week later. Police visited and recovered the thieving f**kers new family pet and returned it to the rightful owners.

There were poor pikeys... Not the bling ones with Hobbies and Landcruisrrs the 800quid caravan behind a focus type locally last year. They were linked to a lot of dog thefts.

Police? - there are no Police. Numbers are way down in most areas. Those that are left are tasked with everything from hospitalising patients with Covid, speeding, no insurance, serious collisions, domestics, mental health issues, vulnerable persons, brexit policing and lockdown breakers........ the list goes on. Their own number have been decimated during the pandemic

Crime as we know it is almost second fiddle. And when they do get a nick, they are on bended knees to the CPS because they have to work for hours to present the simplest of cases to them in order to get charging authority. 'No comment, no comment, no comment'

There is no doubt as others have said that crime in general and gang based mentality whether it be travellers roaming, eastern european driven crime, scams and the like, let alone burglary are subject to appalling clear up rates.

It's family life or lack of it, education, education, education and the general feeling of three generations of 'if I want it, I'll take it' mentality. Social responsibility for many is down the tubes, often via social media lifestyles and I can't see it changing anytime soon unfortunately. Dog theft is just the latest fashion for those who think they are, and perhaps they are, untouchable

I'd quite happily let rip if I caught someone here.

We were burgled and 2 people on the tom tom drums named same lad within minutes when I asked who was the one at the burgling.. some Nesbitt who's now inside.
I'd seen him passing and always having a good look at what was here.

Police didn't want to know. Crime number blah de blah.

Initial half baked idea was to go and batter the pr*ck whilst he was in his pit middle of the night but then ratiional head kicked in and what if it wasn't him?. so I let it go.

I'd of more than done my nut if our Jack Russell was taken.

Someone is going to be killed, be it an owner or a thief. If an owner kills a thief I would contribute to a crowd funded defence no matter how long the owner took to kill the thief. Dogs are more than possessions, there are deep emotional ties bred into dogs and owners over millennia.
The irony that America's Castle Doctrine is based on a view that an Englishman's home is his castle is not lost on me. We must have the right to defend ourselves from the malicious actions of others and dog theft should be right among the top reasons for 'no harm no foul sir, have a good evening' if you phone the local constabulary to report that you have negated another scum sucker from peeing in the gene pool.

It is not beholden for an innocent man to change his life to avoid the actions of criminals. It should not matter if bad people can see your cash on the kitchen table or see that you have a nice dog. It should just be a simple fact that if you enter someone else's property without invitation or attempt to steal belongings you will suffer consequences that may include loss of life. Baiting bad men to their end should be regarded as a gift to society not a crime.

What a lot of people call a guard dog really isn’t friend of mine in Ireland runs a horse producing business lot of thefts of tack and the like in the area an Alsatian or the like of common guard breeds is no deterrent they just kill them (different thing properly bred and trained) so asked me to find him a proper lump of a thing I found a bull mastiff cross American bull pup someone couldn’t handle kept it here for a month teased it a bit let it win all the time sent it over to him it’s now a 10 stone 5 year old dog it has gripped and held 3 people in the time he’s had it and had another 2 up a tree in the morning protecting his tack a proper dog for the job is what you need

Excellent comment,I fully endorse this approach. I have been burgled a number of times. Many items taken are iriplaceable, and it is still in my head many years later.
