How do we reduce the risk from these utter low lifes , can live with the daily risk of workshop being cleared out , quad bike disappearing, Land Rover not there in the morning, the diesel tank emptied on a windy night , but if my dogs disappear !!!! Time is ticking to when there's going to be a serious incident or death involved with this most sickening crime , just what can we do

But how do we stop it happening to us? The thought of it is our worst nightmare, ours are locked up but if they break into the yard then can easily break into the kennels.
if I catch them I’m afraid I may commit murder
hot wire the front of the kennels and padlock them all won’t stop them but should slow them down you won’t beat a screwy dog roaming the yard doesn’t need to hang off them but it helps a noisy nipper would do

Have there been many actual thefts in your area?
Endless posts about it on local facebook pages but nobody seems to be able to name anybody that has had their dog taken. I am not claiming it never happens but I do think it is very hyped up by playing on so many peoples fears.

Teach the dogs to be suspicious of strangers? With some breeds, it is bred in but can be enhanced with training.

Your "helper' (preferably a stranger) behaves suspiciously and runs away when the dog barks. A bit of mild teasing usually gets them worked up. But basically, the dog "wins" each time. Think of the postie who arrives at the door, gets barked at, and promptly goes away. Postmen are trained so they don't unintentionally encourage pet dogs to be aggressive (as I know from working as a postie over Christmas as a student many years ago).

Even the westeby bassett hounds have had some pinched I can’t understand where these are going because I wouldn’t think these will settle into homes having been in a kennelled pack

Been one case 5miles away , as you say plenty on Facebook, hope it is hype , but no smoke without fire is what I'm thinking ☹

Think it is as bald rick says its because of the virus people at home bored getting payed to be bored and they think ah pet dog !
Then when virus is calmed and people have stuff to do there will be an almighty post Xmas style dog dumping when they can't cope or can't be arsed to deal with dogs .
Then these scroats that are robbing them will move onto next 'commodity ' to deal in and all the poor dogs will be begging for a home then 😐
