Domestic Battery Storage

I've a domestic 4 kw solar panel system. In summer I can't use a lot of the electricity and it goes to the grid.

What are the options and recommendations for a battery storage system?

Is there anything new in the battery storage pipeline worth waiting for?

I'm thinking it would also make charging my EV easier

Thanks

I've been half looking at these since watching a video about them on youtube, I like the idea that you can use them as back up power during a power cut and also set them to top up their charge during lower off peak tariffs

if you have a hot water tank system, put one of the smart meters in to use excess electric on your immersion heater, a lot cheaper than battery storage and we all use hot water.

agreed, and sticking a time switch on the washing machine, dishwasher etc. to run during middle of the day would help too.

I have an Immersun and run appliances in the middle of the day. Even so on a summer's day the hot water tank is soon hot and then most goes to the grid

Well I'd be looking very closely at the battery economics before signing up to anything, because I'm not so sure that they stack up.

Maybe a larger thermal store? Are you using heating at any time in the day? Water and foam insulation is going to be cheaper than copper and lithium.

If you like Beer or Wine you could explore making alcohol and distilling.

Not a battery of the electrical kind, but storage of Biological energy.

You'd make more money than selling to the grid as well - if you sell the Beer, Wine or Spirit.

We have a biomass boiler for heating and hot water which has a 2,500 litre buffer tank - a sort of thermal store. The panels cannot heat this tank.
I realise a battery system will be ineffective in the winter, but in the summer the solar panels produce plenty of hot water and most of the power produced goes to the grid.
Regarding the economics of a battery system, well, that will depend on the cost of electricity from the grid and in these troubled times ..........

Does anyone know of a good supplier and installer who covers north Essex?

if you are after batteries I do not know any supplier who will give a date at the moment
There only quote I could get for a power wall was "an absolute minimum of 12 months"
