Donald plays a blinder

They will develop their own nuclear weapons now and will be untouchable if they get even a single functional weapon. They already have missiles capable of reaching plenty far enough to threaten their neighbours.

So basically the Americans are committed now to destroying their nuclear program.

If Iraq's government expels all foreign troops from their country and Trump has already pulled out of Syria, where does that leave the West with our efforts to counter ISIS?

At this rate the West will have no ties with Iran, Iraq, Syria or Turkey and much reduced intelligence flow from the region. A spectacular own goal however you want to paint it.

For once he has done the right thing, will he keep it up?
Gor blimey Guvnor, we agree!

You mean - keep sending missiles?
The opposite, stop them.

BINGO! :D

And about time too, there is nothing benign about the theocratic dictatorship there, the Iranian people deserve better and, with some luck and a lot of effort, this will end with the end of the Islamic Revolution.

None of the Iranians I've met - and I mean those who are actually from Iran, rather than those who are part of the Shah-supporting diaspora - speak with any affection toward their government. They are filled with disgust and contempt for it and - most of all - fear of it. The dictatorship can organise mass protests with ease, I doubt very much that if there is a credible chance of overthrowing it, those same masses will put their lives on the line for it.

The Israelis were presumably already committed to sabotaging/hindering/destroying the Iranian programme. Either in cooperation with the Americans or without them.

I hope your resume is correct, but they must be fairly good at organising mass protests when you see the number of them escorting his coffin.

The pretense that Iran wasn't going to create their own bomb is quite cute.

I would guess the USA knew this some years ago probably during the Obama "Hussain" years.

Apart from creating a martyr what has been achieved ? Someone else will step into the vacuum created and the Iranians will have even more focus and support for their regime.

They've had forty years to get that right; it's a combination of a few genuine believers, government employees, lot's of subsidised rent-a-mob types and plenty of coerced people - with a population of more than eighty millions, it's not that hard to drum up a fair sized crowd. It's even easier in the capital.

The Iran deal would have halted the work and facilitated inspections. Now we will be relying on intelligence from defectors. Iran is a big place so hardly difficult to hide parts of a weapons program.

They want a bomb mostly because the regime fears the Americans trying to remove it. Its North Korea all over again. How well did Trumps effort go there again?
