I was speaking to a farmer the other day and the discussion got round as it does in this area to T.B .He said he had been told by another farmer that running a donkey in with the heard of cows reduced or stopped the occurrence of T.B .Now after id finished laughing and telling him he was having his leg pulled he asked me if I knew anyone selling any as he was going to give it a try ,he has been 3 years not clear, now id never heard of this and put it down to an old wives tale but thought id float it out on here and see if anyone else had come across this .

Might be some truth to it. Donkeys are used to guard livestock in some countries so they might chase any tb infected badgers away. I saw a picture on FB of a donkey with a dead coyote in its mouth. It had killed it while it was trying to kill someone's sheep and was still playing with it. If I'd been sh!t down for 3 years I'd be willing to give it a go.

Donkeys are meant to be kept in pairs according to the Donkey Sanctuary, but I'm not over impressed with that crowd, if they had half as much interest in the welfare of their workers as they proclaim to have for the animals then it might be different.

"Many a true word spoken in jest".

I was laughing too until I read H's post. I have no cattle but the electric fences, which aren't switched on all the time, stopped them coming in here.

A bit like farmers keeping a goat with dairy cows years ago to stop Brucellosis abortion.

Really interested in this, met a chap who was milking horses, £30 + a litre, so, if I run a donkey with my milkers, and can actually get it in the parlour, will it keep tb badgers out, how much milk do they give, how safe are they to milk, co's I have heard they can kick like f###, then I woke up......………..the £30 bit was right, its used to make ladies cosmetics, perhaps that explains why women are so stubborn at times......

Other donkey talents include (I have been told!) breaking bulls to halter lead and preventing fighting in yards of bull beef. There was a video doing the rounds of a drunk lad jumping over a gate to knock a donkey out, the result was very funny he made an ass of himself by getting his ass kicked by an ass.
