Any donkey experts out there?

Are there any dangerous minerals for donkeys? We have a couple that are in a small field with some sucklers and wondering about putting a general purpose lick tub in the field for the cattle, which the donkeys will obv want to have a lick of.

Our Donkeys. Mr and Mrs Donkey have lived on cattle minerals for years unfortunately the cows with them seem not to have such longevity.

Don't know about donkeys but we've had to stop putting buckets out for the sheep where they graze alongside a herd of wild Exmoor ponies.......

.......not because of any harm they do but because the feckin ponies munch through them like they were tins of Quality Street. The sheep never get so much as a sniff 😡

Not content with that, the equine barstewards then smash the buckets to bits so they can get the last little bits out of the corners 😤

I like to eat horse. Perhaps I could assist in solving your problem?

I wouldn't mind but they're there as part of some grand Natural England scheme - I'm guessing questions would be asked🐴

I dunno, didn't the RBST have a slogan at one time along the lines of if you wanted to save them you had got to keep eating them.. :bag: .
I don't think they meant equines though 😂
Being a horseist by trade I 100% stand by the opinion that the whole horse population of the UK would benefit hugely if there wasn't such a stigma around slaughtering horses for human consumption! Eat the f**kers then all the gypsy cobs rotting or being fly grazed, all the scabby ponies rotting on the back of council estates, useless racehorses fit for nothing but being racehorses would have a value and not suffer the miserable existences they have to. Its not a hugely popular opinion amongst many of the horse enthusiasts I've had the pleasure to deal with 😂 but there are worse places to end up than dead!

Any horse enthusiast with an ounce of sense and an understanding how the real world works will agree with you.

I've highlighted the 2 bits of that that don't apply to many horsey people! I include my wife and stepdaughter in that - they bought a horse without my input last year. Said horse is officially named Draft Pick and his nick name is Dick. Someone went to the effort and expense to register his name with the BHA as an anagram of Daft pr*ck and they called him Dick as his stable name....and the ladies cannot fathom why said horse has a propensity to be a f**king knob head!

Apparently donkeys are hard as nails and pretty much will attack on sight any kind of predatory animal that comes near it or the animals it is kept with?
a friend that has some suckler cows keeps a donkey with them to keep wolves and bears away when they are summer pastured next to the national parks. He said he has lost calves to bears in the past but not since the donkey has been running with them.

Mr Donkey has chased down and killed Maasai sheep that got into his field and I have a bite mark on my arm from him.
sounds like he should be called Mr Barsteward Donkey. :sneaky:

Never had much to do with them tbh.,well apart that is, from the one that just appeared on the front lawn early morning of new years Day 1996
