Going over to bales this year after about 25+ years on the wagon for my own silage, problem is drawing the bales ,one man job don't want to be getting on and off different machines front links on tractor but can't really stack with 2 on front and back , not enough spool valves ,and also awkward placing bales 2×2 any ideas

How many acres , are you ready for a big jump in cost . Have you a loader on the front , I see lads with a good soft grab on the front and the double on the back , gets through bales quick enough.

Loader on front of tractor, trailer on back, get to field unhitch load hook back on an go to yard, unhitch unload, hitch back on, repeat as needed.

As for lights an brakes on trailer that means getting out of cab so do what most farmers do an don’t bother:whistle:

Only holds 10 and for what it costs you could buy a used loader and big trailer
Yep, i looked into it 2 years ago, only 10 bales and expensive, so unless bales are fairly handy to stack, its very slow, I have a 26ft trailer behind a 40k telehandler, one man job, you can shift a lot of bales in a day if you want too.

The Wilson or Keltec would wipe the floor with a ordinary trailer. 100 unwrapped bales an hour can be moved but the wrapper was in the field beside the bales

I have cleared more with Keltec in a day then 2 trailers carrying 17 each , it's unloading where you really gain ! And bales are handled less so better on the wrap

Was talking to a friend who does bale contracting about these bale trailers. And they really only suit a certain distance. Now we are talking about wrapped bales. But he has front linkage and carrys 2 front and back on short draws around yard and reckons it's very quick and cheap. Then I bale 3 miles away and hired a guy with a Wilson 10 bale carrier. It was too slow due to distance. I normally use trailers that carry 17 and 21 at a time. And it takes as long to drive on road with 10 as 21. Plus I don't count bales as being home until they are stacked.

How many times is the bale at the back handled? 6?

I'll stick with wrap at the stack and handle them once.
Once its in the ring it's not handled again not separately anyway, suits me and I was using 2 trailers 3 men before , the straps fecked the job up , as said doesn't suit everyone, if it's more then 2 miles crack on with trailers and straps

Also labour isn't about like it use to be , and wrapping at the stack doesn't happen around here anymore it's all combination balers so you haven't a choice but to handle wrapped bales from where they are bailed !

Don't get me wrong, they look like great bits of kit but plonking the bale down 6 times has to be a risk. I wouldn't fancy a 9 foot wide trailer on our roads either. I'd struggle to get that in our yard as well, our 40 foot rear steer attic gets in easy. Strapping is the biggest ballache, I'd love a no strap straw trailer...
