Does it have activity against chickweed? Looking for something to spray mixed brassicas and beetroot for chickweed and redshank.

Tell me about it. I tried it as a last resort in some swedes a couple of years ago.
The redshank made it to 6’ tall in the end, and I had to take the topper through strips to put fences up.

Sheep still ate most of it though, and did ok, as well as feeding huge flocks of sparrows for most of the winter.

unfortunately they didn’t eat all the seed though, as a thick carpet comes up in Spring cereals now.

Needs doing before the two leaf stage with fine nozzles, low volume high pressure. Used it sucessfully through insect netting. Very narrow window couple of warm wet days & the chance is missed. No good on chickweed.

I thought you used wing P on brassica.

Lentagran WP will do the job on waxy brassicas

Maybe Goltix on beetroot

Perhaps interow spraying with roundup? or hoeing. I like inter row spraying but I kept cutting rates & I've ended up with some bindweed in swedes, roguable but a nuisance,

It wasn’t ever approved for use in forage brassicas, but the manufacturer told me it should be by this year. I’ve heard nothing since though. A friend told me it was effective against fathen in swedes, but needed 2x sprays, and certainly not cheap.

I was under the impression it killed swedes, certainly will kill charlock in sprouts but maybe down to growth stage/rate etc. Rarely use it only when in deep trouble.

Cost of herbicides not really a consideration in veg crops, weeds very very expensive. We need uniformatiy & weeds cause disease, slugs things not really important in stockfeed crops.

Where it had a double dose, emptying the sprayer, it did a good job. It probably needed a repeat application on the rest of it to work properly, but my friend couldn’t source it by then. Fathen was about 6-8” tall by the first dose too, so later application than ideal.

mircale it did not kill the turnips, are you sure it was not waxy leaved kale.

You are supposed to do a test first, to test the waxisness of the leaves, turnips have very little leaf wax.

It was turnips, and they stood it well.

The fat hen was coming so thick that it was a ‘do or die’ operation anyway, as the turnips would have been completely smothered if nothing was done.

A tractor mounted weedwiper would have been ideal, but none available anywhere near and he certainly couldn’t justify buying one for that job.

I’ve now got a quad trailed wiper, partially so that I could use it in that situation, should it ever happen to me.
