What blueing are people using
Bin having a look on tube birch wood casey perma or super i think seemed faverate ? I'll have to try one eh
are you looking to cold blue something or marking blue?

Edit...
cold blue i see upon a google.
i have some gun blue here, cant remember the brand tbh but its kinda hobsons choice.
i warm the part up a bit before i apply it, that is after its well cleaned.
a couple of coats should give good results but the tube is the right place to look and see how others get on, there are little tricks to pick up there too.

Harrison must have improved. When I did my skillcenter course in Bristol, the Harrison was by far the worst machine there, parting off was a no no for example. One trainee managed to almost kill it when he broke the tool post off, tool was fine, but then it should have been! He had it in upside down, and wound the saddle along whilst talking to his mate! Best machines were war time Edgewicks.

Probably hadn't been treated very well to start with. Parting off with my 13" is a dream - usually just bang it in autofeed & let it do its thing.

I have to admit i am still scared of or at least very respect ful of parting off
I have done it in power , lots of oil.
I do rate my 140 , slip clutch issues resolved / forgotten, as yet only other issues will be operator error.

It was the newest machine there, less than three month old I was told! Agree re power feed for parting, our instructors were strong on that.

Ok two current disasters
Compound slide has always been a bit tight , and as previous owner had broken the winder he'd turned the current knob .
Tbh he's made a pee poor job of captivating the knob on the shaft , and has slap as its chewing its self .
And damage in center portion of the acme thread.
I don't class it as standard wear to the acme , more like foreign bodie it some time.
So how to tidy the thread? Buy a split die ? Or try to improve by turning on my lathe ,which obviously has no shaft in the compound , id have to make / buy turning tip for the acme ....
Nut is damaged but may live if i can sort shaft , or just buy the pair if available ????
Post images wen nr shop .

,winder end , knob screws on then he'd screwed something thru hole thats bin ovaling that hole.
Then he cut probably cap screw off flush so near impossible to remove. That will be the odd play ive been feeling. Not decided how to adress that yet , possibly a grub screw in different persition?

I don't think the acme is buggered , but it is damaged in center portion about 3 threads . Right hand , i count 13 thread to inch , my gauge says not quite 13 g ? But 2 mm is nice .
12.5 mm od .492 " so 1/2"
