Dribble bars. Is 7.5 wide enough?

Currently looking at Storth, major and Slurrykat bars. Was wanting 9m but there’s a big price jump to the 9m slurrykat and major only do a 7.5 anyways.

All salesman have said 7.5m is popular. However I can’t help but think I’m going to be narrower than splash plate. Unless it’s the wrong way to look at things?

Just after a bit of advice and user experiences. It will be tanker ready hatch mounted.

We run 7.5 meter wide trailing shoes on the tankers and they work very well , any thing wider you want 2 masarator on it

They are very popular for a reason, anything wider will have to either fold up twice on each boom or be telescopic which adds cost, weight and complexity, also as mentioned above it is better to have 2 macerators for bigger widths. We went to a 7.5 meter trailing shoe about 5 years ago on the back of a 2400 gallon tanker and in my opinion its a perfect match, it's narrower than the old splash plate but we have to drive at least double the speed as before as the slurry runs through the trailing shoe much faster than out the splash plate so output is higher than before.

Interesting. The 9m slurrykat was the largest with a single, but also the largest size available for rear door hanging. It was also only 40kg heavier than the 7.5 major.

Fairly fast then? I usually spread around 3.5-4.0 mph on ours with splash plate. So you’re saying I should be aiming for 8+ mph with bar? That seems like fast slurry spreading to me?

I've got a 7.5 m mastek on my abbey 2250. Had to put a rubber cone in before the macerator to slow the slurry down as we have alot of banks and hills so tractor couldn't keep up forward speed with PTO , macerator and pulling tanker all at once Something to bare in mind. Would be fine if you have level land.

Have a new 9m Slurrykat here (June 21) it is telescopic on a new tanker v well pleased with it and certainly wouldn’t like to go any narrower especially if putting little on.Is easier on ground than a narrow one (tanker is on 900s) and less power required for hills

Yes it is v neat/tidy and certainly the macerator has no problem keeping it going it also has the breakaway feature if ithas a collision 🤕Only blockage’s encountered were from the results off the hoof trimming. Have cereal in tramlines which is done by contractor. Tanker is 2750 as already stated on 900 single axle and is certainly manoeuvrable stable and not high with the boom folded

We've a Slurryquip 10.2m on a 2500g Abbey. Mounted to the chassis rather than the hatch so sits tight to the back of the tank. Very please with it and glad we didn't go for a narrower model.

Id be interested to see/hear some more about this set up. Who fitted it?

Is there no way to weld brackets onto the existing tanker to have it chassis mounted? If you have to do the speeds quoted above over a bumpy bit of a field it'll not be great for the back door.

Is there a width that works well with your field lengths? Quite a few long fields here and it's annoying crawling along with 12m plate to end up empty at the far end.

I would say 7.5m is wide enough, you can fairly knock on, if you have short square fields maybe wider. Long fields a wider shoe wouldn’t make a load reach the far end and I prefer not take whole loads across whole fields.
Something to look at is number of outlets per metre. Just looking at Conor, the in house shoe has significantly less per metre than the Slootsmid they offered. We went with the Slootsmid and the tank is soon empty (much faster than a plate) and you have to fairy knock on to keep the rate where it should be.
