Drill fill trailer

Much like @clives thread, except I don't have the charm, wit, good looks or money of clive!

Step one was after months of looking buy this trailer off eBay in the spring for a very reasonable £600.

Donkey engine was seized and the auger was not tall enough for the vaderstad rapid but basic trailer was sound.

It had 2 compartments with a (seized) bottom auger on each compartment with 2 unloading augers. First Job was to strip all that out along with donkey engine so we were left with just the body .

Neighbour donated a old 4in bin unloading auger

We then welded a bottom tube to connect both compartments and mounted the auger so it ran the whole length of the trailer

How much seed can that hold out of interest?
That is an excellent question and honest answer is I don't know! The plan is to extend the hopper so it can hold 6 tonnes.

If we have a big big day we will cover close to 70ha (6m drill) so at a 200kg/ha we need 14t. We would leave the yard with 2t some only need 12t so to only have to run back once a day hence target 6t.

Very interesting. I had a brand new Cole Drill Filler (as shown in your picture) in the early 80’s. It came from not far from you. IIRC, near the village of Gt Barford, between Bedford and the A1.
It was a terrific bit of kit and especially useful for filling an MF 30 drill with both seed and fertiliser, really fast.

At that time, I was farming 2 farms in Suffolk about 10 miles apart, with all the grain having to be stored at one farm.
We had an artic lorry hauling the grain and used the Cole Drill filler as a “Chaser bin” while the lorry was away.
By using both unloading augers at the same time to unload the Cole, it took about 20 minutes to empty it.
The only problem was that the augers weren’t high enough to go over the bulk tipper, so we had to drive the rhs of the Cole trailer onto a sleeper.

Brilliant bit of kit though!
