Drill shaft Speed sensor - pto display

Was thinking of putting a speed sensor on the seed shaft of the drill so would need a display. Using a New holland tractor was thinking of using the ISO/DIN plug (only as I have that plug and not one for the PTO). Would I been able to feed in through that plug ? and would the rpm/min be to slow to pick up ??

No you won't be able to use the 7-pin DIN 'signal' socket as that is reserved for tractor-related functions like PTO and wheel speed, linkage position sense etc.

If you wanted to monitor the speed of an external shaft / motor etc somewhere, you'd be best mounting a magnet and hall-effect sender to it and then running a separate power/signal cable top/from the sender back to your own small LCD display inside the cab, which would display the RPM of said shaft or motor. You can get such setups from eBay or Amazon quite cheaply. Speed information should be instantaneous.

A tenner for a sensor and display. Even if you bin it after, just to prove it works.

Can you get something that will tell you it's not spinning. I got a air seeder for turnips. Every year either the drive breaks. Or the electric fan stops. Mostly a few acres drilled before I notice

Or find a handy nerd to code an Arduino to do the same thing...

you could use an arduino (with a 12 year old) to sounda buzzer on a relay
