We normally need to be drilled up by 4th Oct. Last year we believed forecast for dry October reinforced by previous winter being so dry we drilled in January with ease. Result: nothing drilled at all this winter other than 25 acres last week now lying sodden.

Is it legal to spay yellow dwarves? ;)
why not? so long as you follow the hse rules , the guidelines for self assessment ,the enviroment agency waste directives whilst fully recording dates time and the operators licensed number for your assurance inspection as well as informing the local dwarf association of the rules re transporting of dwarfs to your premises.

I might ring them up and ask what their methodology was.
im going to undertake my own survey which has served me well in the past ,but now need due to the prospects of a much reduced harvest yield to formalise the plan which will consist of a tour of the eastern uk wheat belt on my way south (harwich) to the snow covered alpine meadows .To broaden the results a consideration of the plantings throughout northern europe will recquire an extended tour with time to write my outward report before returning via a more northerly route via holland (ijuimuden). This method of evaluating the plantings and prospects of the european harvest and not just uk as we are constantly told we are in a "world market"will undoubtably improve my marketing strategy and could well be classed as a business expense .

Looking at stuff drilled from Nov 20th onwards right up to three weeks ago, what is up is going backwards at an alarming rate, brash soil has "capped", never seen that before. I have come to the conclusion (with hindsight) with others in a discussion in our local this eve that actually doing nothing at all would have been the best option. Waiting on for any chance to drill has I think been just a waste of time and energy, seed and money. God only knows what I will harvest, long range forecasts for Spring seem fairly awful to top it off. Heavy land, god knows what will happen there.
I have friends who have real heavy clay, with nothing planted, nothing ploughed and it looks bleak re spring cropping.
Those published figures seem so far off the mark, certainly around here anyway.

according to the survey on ahdb today 93% of the intended wheat area was planted by 14th of feb.
who the f--- are they trying to kid
They clearly have not been around us with there survey! Would think 15-20% tops of wheat drilled around us, and most of that looks crap, if it doesn't dry up soon then our worst clay land will be fallow, it was ploughed in good conditions last September but it's just a pudding underneath and has been for several month now, I've been saying it will come good but for some land the clock is ticking now , not going to force crops in for the sake of it, so patience is going to be needed if we do get a chance.

i agree, god knows where they get 93%. We have around 20% in, maybe 10% will survive. Most around us are in a similar position, some have nothing in. We will be fallowing a large amount.
