Drilling anyone?

Is this autumn worked stubbles you're trying to drill??
Yes, when we walked them a week ago they looked like they would drill perfectly but with the wind that we had it has left the top set to hard for the rapid to drill constantly at the right depth across the field.
Tried the cultipress but not enough tines, power harrow looks like the perfect job, just going to loose the moisture but we will worry about that when we finish drilling the barley

Perfect conditions for a direct drill but we have to make do with what we have

Sprayed off autumn worked ground yesterday, I was amazed how the tractor travelled, the ground did seem hard, I'm planning on going straight in with a KV tine drill. You have me worried if a Rapid won't work! Surely the system discs or agrila tines loosed the ground?

Drill just rode out on the red marl, we have a weaving tine drill and I don't think it leave a fine enough job looking at how the tines on cultivators worked. But this is our land yours might be diferent

Seen several using PHs in front of tine drills. To me that just begs Q why not use a combi?

I think combi drills can bring there own troubles, we have one but I hate it with a passion, to much weight on the packer in my opinion, power harrow on its own is a light machine which doesn't cause tractive compaction. Although it's very dry on top its still very tender underneath, tender enough that a 4 m combi loaded up could do a lot of untold damage, it didn't work for us in 2013 and I doubt it would now

Sprayed off some ground that was lifted in the autumn for OSR which failed. It has weathered down but is a bit rough in places. Will power harrow it before drilling to level it and create some tilth. Then unidrill. The drill alone finds it too hard going and doesn’t create enough tilth on the heavy areas so struggles with seed coverage. A combi would be too heavy here.

Just buzzing through some heavy ground (was cultivated in the Autumn) with the Inverta, will give it a day or two and then in with the combi, hope the plan works!

Ploughing the ex beet land and a grass ley.
I have sometimes paraplowed and powerharrowed ex beet land with very good results but this year it’s too blocky and I want the tops buried before they spread disease.

Late direct drilled wheat has been a disaster here where there is even the smallest amount of clay. Either drowned out or capped over. Won’t ever be trying that again. Been ok on the sand though.
Moral of the story: plough heavy land early and dry. Let the weather break it down.
