Drilling anyone?

Being patient
No till Drilled half my autumn crops before the rain
In 2012 the longest rain free period in October and November was 6 days but
If I had started on the 20 September we would have finished by the end of the month
Most years being patient on heavy land pays whatever drill or cultivation in 2012 only lighter easy fields were better than a spring crop

How are the dd boys getting on.anyone with claydons,Mzuri, weaving,John Deere etc drills.how are they coping or are you all waiting for drier weather too
Nick...

I could drill the entire farm with our C0 conversion / front hopper - not wanting to resort to that just yet as it will disturb more and create slug issues I think if I have to

too wet for discs right now though but was amazing how fast it dried out with just 3 dry days this week

Patience is key, but it will have a limit and if we are not well on by 25th Oct I will use the CO

No till wheat with 4m Simtech 100ha of 150 ha done, cultivated land with 8m Moore and a 4m combi drill about 40ha of 240ha done. The difference is where land needs cultivating in front of the drill it needs to dry again before drilling, with no-till if it is dry to go it goes. To date the no-till land and ploughed land has gone the best, it is the min-till stuff causing the biggest difficulties.

I’m really impressed so far. My Kuhn Accord combi Will block in the wet sooner than the KR however I did have to bail out when trying to finish a headland in the rain. It was onto stubble which had just had a light cultivation with a Carrier 6 weeks ago. It’s a fair lump when full of seed ! View attachment 837765. Not sure if it’s just this one but the coulters are painfully slow to lift ( you can hardly see them moving )
Coulter lift rams are really slow on ours too.
Too wet for it here now, so just taken delivery of a s/h weaving in the hope of dryer weather soon

Has anyone actually had more than a couple of dry days in a row where you can move some ground and let it dry a bit before drilling it? We haven’t!
Moved Wednesday drilling Thursday

Managed 2 days drilling with the 'big' drill then came to a stop
So had to rig up our 'insurance policy ' drill that hasn't been used since 2012
Managed to plant 10 acres after potatoes today

Many people dream of a outfit as smart as that backup!
It was our only drilling outfit for several years. Would drill approximately 1000 acres in the Autumn, mixture of rape and wheat. We used it as a one pass system in most conditions, rape stubble, wheat stubbles, bean stubbles, maize stubbles and also straight in behind potatoes. As long as it was reasonably dry on top this system would go. Best day i ever had was 75 acres. It seems very slow now though going back to this but its just too wet for our cultivator drill.

Got on well with or Dale drill this week, but we definitely had a lot of luck on our side!
First off we only had half the forecasted rain last Sunday and got going on the lightest field on Monday afternoon, got 18Ha of wheat done by 9 the last 20mins was done in drizzle which made it pretty sticky.
Tuesday set a farm record of area drilled in a day with 35Ha of rye, a big shower passed only a couple of fields to the south of us that would have stopped us in our tracks if it had gone over the top of us.
Wednesday set another new record of 41ha of wheat. Thursday broke that record with 44Ha done.
Not bad going for a 30 year old JD3350 and a 4.2m drill 44Ha planned left to do.
