90% done this week. Will finish tomorrow hopefully
The trouble here is when our soils get wet at this time of year, they stay wet, I know its still early but difficult to fit it in and less and less sun in the day all adds up to wetter soils. Looks like today i am working maize ground thats being harvested today, disks or plough, were see what sort of mess they leave.patience, dear chap patience , this god awful sowing time at least here and as far as ive travelled this last fortnight into scotland across to yon side of the pennines and south out of yorkshire has now reached the stage of some folks wont sow ,some will maul it in others may get most done but not all and most will be past their optimum sowing date re yield . When has combinables paid best over the last 40 years ? and thats with or without the B word
I agree with you there, but you never know if Nov will be any drier, could be wetter. All the ground we deal with is very wet - barley all done a week ago, all bar a few acres of oats in - but, we haven’t even reached the date I target as start date for drilling wheat yet - plenty of time yet for this area IMO. Would sooner drill in good conditions in November than mauling it in now?
We seem to want everything done by mid October now - I can remember drilling going on into Nov/Dec just because the kit wouldn’t allow you to get on faster - always a first time but we always seem to get a breakI agree with you there, but you never know if Nov will be any drier, could be wetter.
Whats drying it out?Back drilling again today now too. Tried at 10am but too damp from yesterday’s rain and the morning dew.....but just about dry enough now on untouched, sprayed fallow.
Slow progress....but progress all the same.
If yere getting the rain we have tomorrow then it is going to take a week of dry weather to dry the ground . Its like standing under a sprayer nozzle atm.And to think folk reckoned I was 'getting concerned' to soon. Unfortunately it seems I was right to be ?
Whats drying it out?
No sun or wind to dry anything here.
Thats proper land! Never seen anything turn over like that before. We did quite a lot today but still very wet
Definitely to wet then if the combi wont go, thought they were supposed to go in all weathers when nothing else would?Tried this morning on some ploughed ground that has a soaking yesterday afternoon.done a round, struggled for foreward motion and then spent an hour on pressure washer cleaning completely blocked press and underside of power Harrow and rear roller

Same here, going to order a few tonnes of uncle bens rice. Maybe that'll grow?Just ventured outside now and it’s absolutely bouncing....looks like there’s been a lot through the night as well
