Drilling anyone?

I’ve finished one field of barley and went to start another bit ploughed last Friday.i set in and sunk a foot so pulled out, came back to farm and emptied drill which is a pain on a box drill.put a bag of wheat in and went to some land ploughed and rolled a month ago but very close to getting stuck again.had to use the diff lock to get out aswell.everything back inside and rain forecast for the next week too.

Don't regret the bit we did early, yet.

Should probably add. Heavy ground, after beans which had a very thick stand and seemed to keep out the BG last year. Always seem to suffer with low plant populations on here, so drilled at 240kg/ha last week in September. Would rather have the work and the risk spread, appreciating the negatives of early sown crops. Had avadex, crystal and liberator. Thankfully it doesn't seem to have been harmed by the rain after and infact the pre ems have probably benefitted from it. 5th year strip till, structure is pretty remarkable considering 7 years ago it was decimated by a beet harvest. Still wouldn't want to drill it once it's gotten this wet though.

Well another 60acres 1st wheat drilled today but rain is forecast for the. next few days so that could be it for a while!
Was min tilled bean ground that was spring tined in front of the drill today, bit tough going, ground very soft and wet + bean straw and rubbish constantly blocked the spring tine.

It also shows which farms might be better off growing grass (mine) and a few who will be praying for rain every week from may onwards. Not sure I'd prefer to be drilling now and hoping for unseasonable weather all spring , or where I am sat now waiting for it to dry.
I’ve got a bit of every soil type, so can hedge my bets

What we drilled last Thursday has run together and doesn't look pretty after the weekends rain. Drilled after grass yesterday which looks really good. Drilling after potatoes and OSR today, been round some wet spots and hoping the weekends rain doesn't ruin what looks like a better job than was made this time last week.

Running out of dry easy going land now.
