Just north of Hertford, We managed to get 20 acres in last week but nothing since and now it’s really wet!
Anyone else got anything in the ground?

Nothing in the ground here in North Yorkshire, 40mm over the weekend and 15mm on Monday night. 2 dry days forcast now and rain again Friday so who knows when we’ll be starting

Beans into grass. Going to get it done tomorrow, won't get any drier now.

Any reason you wouldn’t put wheat in after grass .

This is the first year trying it. Want to strip till into the ley, we have tried wheat before but on the clay fields we struggled with adequate seed to soil contact with the coulter peeling too much turf away from the seed. With the slim bean coulter you get a better finish. Also more time to make sure the grass is dead with a follow up spray before the beans come through.

Also part of the thinking is that after a 2 year ley, if there are any pests in the soil then beans will be less affected. Also wanted a take all break after the ley.

Is that batter boards and harrow? Looks quite ridged? Though I appreciate that it can just be cosmetic/look worse in the photos.......

Yes. That's as low as we dared go with the boards. Any more pressure and it bulldozed. The corrugation effect shows up after it has been rolled & has settled down.
