Getting a bit in here , chasing right up behind the plough , very much a dip in and see operation going in ok on the whole odd spots and headlands messy in places would have preferred it hazing over for a day or two before the drill but just glad to get some in tbh

Well it’s actually been dry today and is supposed to be tomorrow so hopefully we will get a bit more drilled tomorrow, lucky today as neighbouring farm was rained off only 3 miles away!

Been going well here yesterday and today but not sure how much to do tomorrow lunchtime weather said we may have up to 70mm of rain here on Friday.
Sowed a field of barley week last Friday which was followed by best part of three inches within a couple of days maybe half of it has emerged the rest looks fecked?
Wheats after rape all getting hammered by slugs .
Is there a max limit for ferric phosphate pellets?
Bloody weather.

How do you vari width the drill.
Ha ha- the outside headland runs were done on that one side leaving the two inside ines as turning area - the set up AB line to drill the middle - once all the short was done, the headland finished. Not the usual method we’d employ but it allowed the drill to carry on until the plough had got some ground over - not wanting to leave anything ploughed but not drilled.

Got the plough to sneak on abit yesterday just to see if it gazed over a bit , good shower in the night has made it stickier than it looks this morning can’t have the press down on the front it’s burying seed and it’s a robust rate
Like I’ve just said to the drill man when your stopping every other run and checking coulters a it’s probably time to stop and call it a day

Thinking everything now is going to turn over sh1t so just going to keep ploughing and catch it when we can with the drill
Won’t be the first time and probably won’t be the last

Was thinking the same re. sending the plough on ahead. Nothing ploughed or drilled here yet. Trouble we have is we just have too much day to day stuff to do for two of us to be stood next the plough and drill and grab every little opportunity!
So thinking about letting this weekends rain go and start on ploughing next week and hit it on an odd dry day. Its gonna turn up wet now regardless ?‍♂️

What this thread does show is why the plough and powerharrow combination is still very popular , especially on mixed farms growing roots and maize .

It also shows which farms might be better off growing grass (mine) and a few who will be praying for rain every week from may onwards. Not sure I'd prefer to be drilling now and hoping for unseasonable weather all spring , or where I am sat now waiting for it to dry.

I could think of nothing more soul destroying than having to plough ours now, power Harrow it maybe 3 times and it still go in notty. Hopefully the stuff that light tickle would go if we get a dry week

I’ve finished one field of barley and went to start another bit ploughed last Friday.i set in and sunk a foot so pulled out, came back to farm and emptied drill which is a pain on a box drill.put a bag of wheat in and went to some land ploughed and rolled a month ago but very close to getting stuck again.had to use the diff lock to get out aswell.everything back inside and rain forecast for the next week too.
