I was lifting beet wednesday/Thursday and was going to put a tine through the ground and drill it with wheat but fridays rain has put paid to that. Our haulier now wants more beet as anyone on heavy stuff cant get on so we'll continue lifting and then see what things look like.

So, question would be with it looking fairly reasonable into January, and fifteenth Jan the magic fert day, would be if it fairs up do we start on spring barley instead with a slug of seedbed fert at the same time?

Or even seedbed N for late wheat?

Very similar recorded here since yesterday morning, Flat 10.

Had intended to start Monday patching up the failed patching up done 5th December (235mm since) of what various bits of WW we actually managed to get in in October last.

Instead, it rather looks like yet another week off.

Even worse news to report, our nearest local's now shut up shop and gone out of business due to lack of support last harvest.

Full on debate here this morning - stubble turnip ground that was grazed with sheep - to drill Diego WW (2nd WW) or wait, put on the digestate and chicken muck and drill spring barley that was destined for that ground? If barley stays within £20/t of wheat, then my money is on the SB as it gives us time to do the job tidy, sort a drain etc - but a lot of pub talk that SB will be £80 whilst WW will be £160 and lets assume we get 90% of the WW acreage successfully and a lower yielding crop? Dilema.

Worked up some ground Thursday with plan of drilling today. The unforeseen rain has put paid to that. Went and had a look this morning and unfortunately the drill is staying in the shed. Think this may be our last chance looking at next weeks forecast. Even thinking about broadcasting it tomorrow and then cover with KKK
What a year
