Yep I'm on 8/900foot above sea level though backend sharp arrives and cools things down here
No need to be to specific but what area are you .
Here on the Cotswolds I always liked to get barley in early, as unless you get a well tillered crop before Christmas , it never seemed to be able to compensate after Christmas.
The original Arable Research Centre (now TAG)at Cirencester carried out a lot of work on winter barley agronomy. I am sure a lot of it would still apply now.
Perhaps @Fromebridge would be able to tell us where some of the publications they produced on Winter Barley, can be found on the internet.

Modified, cos all the members' data on the web only goes back to the start of NIAB TAG (there may be moves to extend this further but can't promise). Can't remember any precise (autumn drilling dates) sowing date work recently.

In the bottom half of the country at least barley should be sown 20th onwards IMO. This warm weather forecast for next week could wake up a few aphids and make BYDV an issue .

I guess horses for courses, as altitude and exposed north facing stony fields can make such a difference.
I well remember ARC, moving their trial sites from the farm we rented at High Tun, down to Siddington as land at High Tun was so stony and exposed.
