Hi, please could anyone clarify if i'm okay to drill spring beans after ploughing in digested sewage cake? I'm not in an NVZ and I can't see it in cross compliance but thought i remembered this being a no-no ? Cheers

I was told not to do it by the guy at Anglian Water who supply and spread our digested sewage. I think its in RB209 and cross compliance.
"take account of the nutrient needs of plants when applying sewage sludge" i.e. you should not apply nitrogen containing fertiliser (sewage sludge) if it is not required by the plant.

Thanks very much chaps, good points, I need a rethink! Do any other break crops spring to mind? I thought beans or peas, I fear spring rape will get mullered by pigeons in these small 5ha fields with big hedges, or would it get away from them? Cheers

Get the beans in, they will use the N even if they don't specifically need it. Unless they are peanut beans then why would there be an issue for HC?

Agree with fuzzy , we were advised it was against one of the GAEC by agronomist, we are putting spring oats in following sludge - soil is very thin chalk though so hoping they will stand OK.
