Intrested to know what seed rate you guys are using when just rolling in the seed. if its a wet week after I guess it catches ok. Seed rate, tgw and establishment % plants per sq ft if you’d be so kind. Thx
Wow, maybe I didn’t cock up . We must’ve had 1/2 inch this morning and it did go in well on a bit of nice land .Im sowing osr at 0.8kg/acre today.
Rain forecast tomorrow afternoon so trying to get finished before it comes on.
Haven't harvested 2022 wosr yet!

That seed rate would be light compared to here but we are spring down. How many plants per square foot at]re you aiming for. Here I’m very happy at 5. three will make a bushy crop and strong plants.Im sowing osr at 0.8kg/acre today.

I aim for 40-45 seeds square m early on then 50 if it’s later on hybrid seedIntrested to know what seed rate you guys are using when just rolling in the seed. if its a wet week after I guess it catches ok. Seed rate, tgw and establishment % plants per sq ft if you’d be so kind. Thx
So roughly the same plant population as here. The 5.2 grams per thousand seeds would be larger than here on average. Last year some varieties were like spiders balls. 3.2 grams tgw if I remember right but new fir this year we could order seed by size. ABCD with the Ds being mainly for singluation seeding and As looked like screenings.I aim for 40-5 45 seeds square m early on then 50 if it’s later on hybrid seed
Seed here comes in 1.5m seed packs and the weight can be different so I just double check the weights of each bagSo roughly the same plant population as here. is his method ok
Its to go in light soil on sandstone this yearAll depends on your type of sub-soil.
I think that’s 38/m2. We are planning on starting next week and will be aiming for 45.
What if pigeons eat it? Flea beatles? Doesn't rain.I think that’s 38/m2. We are planning on starting next week and will be aiming for 45.
Some here that d the math of seeds per pound and buy the smallest so cost per acre comes down. Then try to cut seed rate in half because they tell themselves that’s all the need. Then you get a bit of crusting some flea beetle and a late frost then they are complaining about lack of vigor in the seed and having to re drill. I seed at 4 for average seed size. Drill is an 1890 Deere that’s had various modifications. Overall I get good establishment if seeded at a steady 6 mph and 1 inch deep. What if pigeons eat it? Flea beatles? Doesn't rain.
I can't understand how people have such precise seedrates when there's so many variables outwith our control that can change it completely.
it'll be fine, our horsch works the other way , were going to calibrate for 25% less than target this year.Cocked our seed rate up yesterday! Was aiming for 5kg /H but ended up with just over 4 average so a bit less on the middle of the field as I upped the rate on the headlands.
New to us drill and I think the metering wheel is bigger than it should be as the drill was calibrated before we left the yard.
3m Claydon with sulky hopper
I know but you have to start somewhere. OSR seed is to variable year on year to just keep sowing the same kg rate per ha. We had seed bags one year weighing over 10kg a bag. That’s a big difference to your 7.8 kg.What if pigeons eat it? Flea beatles? Doesn't rain.
