Slow down basically otherwise you'll get pipe blockages. 8km/hr at 300kg/ha is about right. Any faster and we would have continual problems with seed flow. Also because your in quite deep with the seed discs any faster in loose soil can bulldoze because the loose soil doesn't flow well.

The first year we used the standard coulters and changed the following year to bean coulters. We use all the coulters. Lots of hassle if the seed size is large without beans coulters.
Standard coulters because we didn't grow them every year and we used all of them as it spread the loading of the seed out so reduced blockages.

Only if you have a box drill.
Drilling spring beans with a Vaderstad Rapid
Are there any tips to drilling spring beans with a Vaderstad Rapid 6 metre? Will I be able to get a high enough seed rate 380kgs/ha. I tried to drill winter beans with a Vaderstad 3 metre box drill many years ago and the Beans kept blocking in the pipes and coulters, will the same thing happen...

I've always planted about 1.5 cwt/ ac for w.beans but felt they coulda been thicker.. but 2.5cwt seems alot ???
It's so hard to work out what is right. A kind winter & spring then the beans are 7 feet tall with all stems competing for the space by growing tall and few pods. A hard winter with lots of rooks & a shorter well podded crop with lots of weeds from unused space with sunlight hitting the ground too much.
Seed rate = ((TGW x seeds per m2) / germination) x (100/(100-%field loss))
Therefore assuming a TGW of 700 g, 80% germination and 20% field loss then the rate would be
((700x25)/80) x (100/80)
(17500/80) x 1.25
218.8 x 1.25 = 273 kg/ha

Drilled ours at 250kg/ha which was way more than it should of been, yielded 2.4t/acre at 17%mc. Think I'll do the same again this time!

Vaderstad not ideal for beans.
We drill ours with a KV tine drill.
Everybody thought our winter beans were far too thick this harvest. Best yield we've every had.

As above KV tine drill is the first choice drill for beans, put them 4" in, job done.

I’ve got both drills but only used vaddy before .
Does the kv blow beans well enough to outside pipes? I always think it’s struggling on hill sides ? 6m evo?
