Soon, I will be sowing winter cerials, but for the first time ever I will be laying down Tramlines.

Three Meter Box Drill, not on a Power Harrow. I have a 12m Sprayer.

Just pondering the best way to go about it...

Thanks everyone!

Either have a tramliner on 1 side of drill and shut off on run 2 then drive opposite on run3 to make the pair of Mark's
Or overlap the second run to match the drills 2 tramliners up

What are the capabilities of the drill's tramlineing system? best to do a half width first so the tramline is drilled in one pass

On our old nordsten drill we just shut off one of the outlets to one side of drill so it left one wheeling one way and when you came back it left the other. Admittedly it meant you had tramlines every six meters but it was simple and no faffing about

That will work for 12mtr ,,first bout full ,second shut of the end and third is the return to make the tramline ,fourth and fifth full ,,six and seven the tramline ,eighth full ,,12 mtr headland = 4 breeds

Easiest way if you can’t block half the drill for the first turn is to tramline on the 6th turn round, and every 4 passes thereafter. You won’t have tramline for the first turn round the field when spraying or top dressing, but thats not an issue - make your own wheeling. With the sprayer it’s just a question of shutting a boom section in the second tramline, but you’ll have to accept a bit of fertiliser overlap.

If your drill isn’t set up to automatically do tram lines you’ll need a good memory to get them right. any way you could move one row over a few inches half the width of your wheel spacing. Wouldn’t be perfect but would give half reasonable line to follow.

Ignore them and put them in with a GPS equipped sprayer. If you don’t have GPS probably worth paying someone else to do the first pass for the sake of £5-£6/ac.
Makes me smile - the difference between youth & an old fart!
Youth goes for expensive GPS.
Old fart remembers that a reasonably competent driver could pick up the join in drill widths due to the 2 bouts never quite matching up. So for my 33’ sprayer following a 20 row drill it was if I remember 2&3/4 drill widths. (Long time ago!)

Every time you put a set of tramlines in reverse back a few yards, that way if you get “lost” it’s easier to work out where you are.

Thanks everyone.

So...

1st run around field - Half Width
2nd run around field - Full Width
3rd run around field - Lay Tramlines
Then back and forth until the field is done

This should work...?
Nearly,
Most drills work better with a half width run on the second pass, though thats maybe just preference for me.
1st run around field - Full Width
2nd run around field - Half Width
3rd run around field - Lay Tramlines
Then back and forth until the field is done.

Another alternative is to add a small fold over 1.5m(1m would do) section with a tap to one side of your sprayer for the outside run, so you tramline on the 3rd full run. See quite a few folk do it that way round here, ourselves included.
Some don't like an overlapped half bout or its a faff to shut off half a width.

what the f**k would they do if had to tramline beet with 12 row drill on 45 cm
and take drive belts off to stop boxes there is over 100 rythems so had to right them down and remember as you went to record every run
🙈
