Drinkers or troughs.

Barn with cattle and sheep in. 25mm water piping. Currently mains but hopefully harvested rain water long term.

In an ideal world........

Would you choose Drinkers or troughs for either sheep or cattle.

And then metal or plastic.

I’ve just been installing these in the older yards with less cattle in

They inevitably muck in them so a quick way of draining them and enough space (beef or dairy would be different demands). I used to dream about having a trough on a swivel thing so that I could empty it quickly and not have to scoop the muck out. Dreams eh?

Not sure on the sheep side but we have IAE Polystall drinkers on 25mm pipe. We have 65 500-600kg bullocks on one and they never wait.

Brilliant with straw blowers as they don't fill up. No issues with muck either but you can drain in a minute anyway.

I have rollover drinkers, empty them at least once a day. Even the water looks clean, the cattle always come over for a drink when they fill up again. Suppose I wouldn't like a cup of water that had been sitting all day either

Any recommendations for those rollover troughs? How expensive are they? Our sheds are quite densely populated admittedly, and so the troughs always seem to end up dirty with straw fallen in, and cattle accidentally mucking in them
