for all of them complaining about the use of social media in work time,
TFF is social media, and look how many post there is in working hours on here,

I will leave you to think about that one
I value a lot of the info that is given out on TFF .....and smile at some of the squit,..... I am lucky enough to be my own boss so therefore my working hours are set by me and the circumstances at the time but that is the privilege of being willing to take on the responsibility of running a business and creating employment for others.

I don’t get the whole phone thing? I used to work for a guy who would ring me and just to bollock me for answering my phone in work time??? I just dont get it?
Answering a personal call while cultivating long hours for instance is more positive than anything, it stops you nodding off if nothing else.
As long as it’s safe, legal and at an appropriate time obviously.

A responsible use clause? A good smart phone for many people is an essential tool of modern life. Many people these days have a second job or small side business trading on ebay and need to be connected. Also in their pocket they have instant access to weather reports, internet resources, and dozens of helpful apps such as mapping that can assist their job. They are a source of music, if like me you have given up on broadcast radio and Spotify/stream everything. I'm sure you are also aware of the local rural crime network which our employees monitor and contribute to.

The problems arise when muppets do stupid things. Broadcasting sensitive information on social media, irresponsibly/illegally using a phone while driving or interrupting a job to take a social call/text should not be tolerated.

How is conducting personal ebay business in work time okay, but not taking a social phone call? I'm happy for staff to have their phones with them (its handy for me to get hold of them, they can send a photo or I can to them to clarify details of a machine or whatever, spreader apps, calcualtor etc is useful) and we have handsfree in tractors so the odd call while cultivating or whatever is fine, because the work I'm paying them to do is still continuing, and I accept a bit of give and take for the benefits I get (that I don't pay any extra specifically for)
But running another business in my time isn't on. Fine, do it at lunchtime, but theres a line. No incriminating pics on social media, and no stood phone fiddling in my time. Thats what breaktimes are for!
