Driving a tractor on the road. tax!

I’ve just purchased an international tractor and need to move it about 5 miles from where it is to my place.
It’s got a v5 and obviously I’ll temp insure it for the journey, question is does it have to be taxed?
It’s never going to be used on the road once it’s here.
Thanks.

I seem to get tax application forms every year for two tractors, cost nothing, no MOT, I guess they check insurance, I just fill the form in.

Having said that, why not just drive it home, hasn't anyone here driven a car round for a few months forgetting the MOT has run out, or in the case of my cousin 30 odd years ago, his Dad said to him, how much is the insurance for your car now, he replied, no idea Dad, you are insuring it, his Dad no, I stopped doing that last year!

The tax should be £0 fot the year so why not pay it?
Once you fill out the v5 make sure you insure it or there will be an automatic fine drop through the letterbox. Just don't ask how I know:rolleyes::mad:

I forgot about it can't remember how many years I'd been running it without. I'm not heavy road use but was a while longer than I'd thought. Was always insured though.

Sometimes older tractors can be difficult to tax online best going to the post office

No tax doesn't mean your insurance is void unless there is a specific clause in your insurance which is unusual.
No MOT isn't such a good thing though, obviously not relevant to tractors.
when I first split up with ex wife, I took over her vehicle, happily driving it six months later and the police pulled me over and told me I didn't have an MOT, and to take my papers to the local police station. I went straight to the garage and got it MOTd, then took that certificate along with insurance and drivers licence to the police. Luckily I just got a warning. I wonder if it was because I got it MOTd that afternoon, same day?

Absolute rubbish, tax is purely a government charge for using the roads, nothing whatsoever to do with insurance or mots. The fact that you can’t tax your car without insurance is a means to help combat uninsured cars being in the road.
A friend got done for no tax, and no insurance because insurance was invalid because no tax about 10 years ago. so not worth the risk as the tax is free. I asked my broker at the time and the answer was no tax, and insurance was not valid on the road. but ok on fields.
I would check with your insurance company.

Those of you old enough will remember when the DVLC in Swansea opened and took over the taxation of all road vehicles from the previous county councils. They were going to use these new fangled computers to manage it.
Wasn't long before cars were running round with notes fixed to the windscreen 'tax applied for' because the computers promptly fell down under the load.
