Driving tractors at 17

Hi all,
I wondered if someone on here knew if at 17 you could drive a tractor on the road with a provisional licence. According to the farmers weekly it's legal but the post was from 2009. Wondered if anyone knew if it was still correct.

I wouldn't have anyone on our gear on the road with a poxy provisional. I passed my tractor test at 16 so I proved I was competent to a specific standard. A provisional to me is a chocolate 'licence' and should be for learning to drive a car ONLY. In my opinion.

So unless you actually do your cat F at 16, just go the whole hog at 17 and get it done rather than pishing about with this provisional nonsense.

"Competent to a specific standard" What, after driving a little tractor with no trailer or attachment past a guy stood on the side of the road a half dozen times?

I've never known anyone fail a tractor test. The lad on the farm next door had such poor eyesight his dad wouldn't let him count the bullocks in a field as he couldn't see them all! He passed first time.

Try having a 17 year old that’s had several tests cancelled due to lockdowns. That’s pretty unfair when they wanta help.

Should be the same as hgv, no way have they the road sense (or common sense) to drive one of today’s tractors, we’ve had some students here during harvest who I wouldn’t put in charge of a wheelbarrow

Some, not all.

Some even at 30 I wouldn't let loose on a wheel barrow!

Just also remember that a 16 y/o can not ride a quad bike on the road with a tractor licence

You have to have a full car licence to do so.

So is it definitely correct that a 17 year old can drive a tractor on the road with just a provisional licence and no theory test? Only 80hp and 6 ton trailer size, as got one about to turn 17 and car test could be a long wait by the looks of things, cheers

Same here.
Test would have been on a monday in December just after the announcement by Dripford on Saturday to total lockdown.
Nothing changed to when start doing them in May is there?
Best time to do a test as not many about???

Going back to L plates on tractor, you can only drive to a test ,is legal views I believe.

Neighbours son passed his car test on the only day the test centres ran this year which was very lucky

🙋‍♂️I failed tractor test first time at 16, I didnt look at the front of the tractor while reversing round a corner, I knew it wasnt out in the middle of the rd but apparently had to be seen to be looking and checking🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️. passed car and hgv first time though so i did learn about doing things just to please the examiner.

If you look at the link I posted above...

Aside from that, you'll need to check if your insurance company are happy with the possibility!
