Drone over our property

Was doing a few jobs this evening in the workshop had my headphones on so wasn’t aware. Mrs appears pointing at the sky me being me thought she’s lost it again….

low and behold there’s a drone 5-6m above The workshop door, had flown over a spinney of trees and an acre, picked up a brick end and launched it at it for it to disappear over the hedge row, we hid for a moment and it returned. Set off on the quad to find three 40 year old blokes one walked off deleting what I assumed is footage recorded. I went bazerk and followed them home. Call to the police led to two cars and four police offers appearing to stop a breach of the peace an hour and a half later, the Police were not interested at all as there’s no crime committed. Just glazed eyed oh yes sir but there’s no crime committed. I don’t want to wake up at 2am to three blokes in our shed again to be quite honest.

What legally can I do about these drones as it’s the second I’ve had in 12 months.

Shouldn’t be within 50m of your property! Tell plod they where filming the kids or Mrs through the window, they’ll have to do something then!

It used to be the case that if your drone was fitted with some form of on-board camera, you needed to familiarise yourself with further regulations in addition to those listed above. In simple terms, the regulations stated that you must not:

  • fly over or within 150 metres of any congested area;
  • fly over or within 150 metres of an organised open-air assembly of more than 1000 people;
  • fly within 50 metres of people and/or property that are not under the direct control of the drone user; and
  • ensure any images you obtain using the drone do not break privacy laws.

If all that is law then make plod follow it up at least the op now knows where they live so unlikely they will nick anything

Shotgun would be the job in my opinion.

Im a recent drone owner and really enjoy it. However, I’m very sensitive to peoples privacy.
Only trouble is a drone is still classed as aircraft and by shooting it down your breaking more laws than the drone user and will probably end up in more trouble! I know it’s not right but I don’t make the rules. Better to bring it down with a net or something you can throw than a firearm!

All legitimate drone users should now have completed a test and be registered with the CAA and this is who you need to report and violations too.

It will probably also help your case if you can prove they are actually flying over your property so photos or videos will help.

Id say shoot it down, how can it be a firearms offence if ur shootin it down when its on ur property, at least the people usin it will know uv a gun and will be unlikely to try to break into u at night
In the eyes of the LAW it’s no different to discharging a weapon at an easyJet so Personally I’d advise against it as much as it is tempting 🙄 but could see you not only lose you guns but with jail time if they really want to make an example of you! I know it’s not fair but the law rarely is 🤦🏻‍♂️
