This popped up on our local police twitter.

Drones are being used to ‘case’ farm yards.

The disturbing thing is this drone incident was at night,in the dark and only spotted by the drones flashing led on security camera and dogs barking.

This could be a right pain as you can’t watch 24/7 for a drone snooping at night.

As a drone fan, I don’t deny for one minute that they can be used for nefarious purposes. i would though be far more worried about animal rights and that sort.
I would have zero faith in the police advice, last week in our village there was an outbreak of chalk markings which locals feared was linked to dog nappings. The local police advised that this was correct and people should be extremely concerned about their security.
This story has been around since I was a boy, 60 years ago , and when you think about it is ludicrous as if it were true , would be the thieves announcing there intentions. The truth of course is the local youths were having a bit of fun

I heard a story today of an incident in the middle of the vale. A neighbor of there's had complained to police about a spotlight from a drone snooping around. They looked on the CCTV and you could see a perfect dot of light searching around in the dark. The police didn't have much interest and said it was most likely light spill from someone out shooting.

I would suspect that was a military or police drone

I have a feeling this is the same incident.

I raised this point locally years ago after we heard a drone buzzing by our back door.
Soon peed off when we got the gun out!
But point being they can go in ,our ,around all your sheds and buildings, photograph and record all and disappear all without EVER putting afoot on your property.
Wasters about and getting worst by the day.

Been going on for 60 years, sounds like it must be the local oap’s out for a bit of fun😜

Looking at local Facebook neighbourhood groups I can see several posts of drone videos taken from above our land (we farm next to a castle which is apopular site). We haven't given anyone permission to be using a drone neither has the castle. What can be done to prevent the drone use? I know your not meant to fly with 50m of property that you don't have permission to fly over which they have clearly breached. What would be the best course of action? Contact the drone users and explain this? Yet more signage in the fields near the castle?
I'm worried about the drones as they could be used to case our yard nearby and is yet another invasion of privacy and mind from the many readily trespassing locals.

What is the exact legal position if a drone is over your property/farmland without your permission ? can it be shot at ? or brought down by a.n. other means.?,Have the hare coursing gangs been seen utilizing these devices ?
