been away for a few days just had a walk round, the difference is truly amazing in the cereals, grass is motoring, will be cutting silage this week and that will tell us where we are in relation to tons/ acre compared to usual but I thought we would have been cutting earlier this year but now will be a few days later for same stage of growth

Generally small and unimpressive flag leafs emerging here

Dark greeen crops deceive to flatter I think right now, some potential has certainly been lost I fear

Thank god it did rain though !
Ive spent an hour or 2 going round and cutting stems open to see what length/numbers of grain site are potentially there, we are at ear elongation in the stem stage and am pleasantly surprised , that was set before xmas so think we still have a reasonable chance of yield and ive decided to go with another foliar feed /and probably an extra fungicide to help keep it flowering and filling when the time comes

All the wheat is going to be short this year.

After all this rain, we've got the tallest wheat I've ever seen here since 1979 with the smallest flag leaves since 1982.

Add in the biggest grain site numbers since 1984, and we're now well on course for the biggest lodging problems here since 1985 with specific weights even lower than they were in 2012.
