Drought

Anyone's spring barley struggling?
Ours has improved a lot, and is now a dark green colour. Could still do with a drop more rain here, as we've missed the large amounts seen elsewhere. For instance, on Saturday morning I was in local town,4 miles away, where it was bouncing off the street. Got home to find we'd missed most of it again.

Generally small and unimpressive flag leafs emerging here

Dark greeen crops deceive to flatter I think right now, some potential has certainly been lost I fear

Thank god it did rain though !

I had a walk around today and thought the same about the flag leaf, but when I exposed a ear I thought how long they were. I don't think there will be enough ears to make a good crop.

Think mine's finished before it started all 10 acre of it. Just about see the rows and sowed 3 wks ago. At sowing no moisture for at least 6 inches then. Don't know if it's worth spending more money on just cut my loses

dont despair tgw makes more of a difference than many think, one of the best crops I ever grew you could see the ground when combining was concerned , but the grains and ears were big and heavy , A 4-5 point rise in bushel weight is a 10 % increase , sunshine and potash is the key along with a clean ear, remember prof laloux in the seventies extolling the virtues of low seed rate
