Do you direct drill?
No.

We take every precaution, wellingtonfarmer, working every trick in the book, spending every necessary dollar, but sometimes, as was the case in 1988 and in 2000, and now in 2017, slug pressure will finally become all too much for any successful cereal cropping succeeding after osr here.

Unsurprisingly, 1988 and 2000 were the two previous occasions (see above) in which I "finally" decided to give up on osr.

And now, after another few years of quite good returns, and completely out of the blue, it's all of a sudden turned itself into the upcoming 2017/18 meltdown.

But anyone who got the rain we did here in June, July, August and September this time might well now easily find themselves in the same boat as me, had they actually been silly enough to take on that level of risk.

in a bid for rainfall i am continuing this thread

uk wheat crop not gonna be much above 13mmt imho
Haven't seen the grain price report here yet but wheat price already rising and no top envisaged yet as europe crop forecast not good.
Guy just retired from Ukraine said that he left at -20C next week it was +32C.
Tad too extreme even by their standards.

I've looked at the long term forecast on metcheck the first proper rain in somerset is mid October
I never believe forecasts more than 2 or 3 days in front. We had an inch here the other night and forecast 21-22 all next week. Bloody baltic this morning, took till 3pm to warm up.
High pressure coming in which means sun but also could mean frost and hailstones at worst. Not the first time its happened in June.
I won't see it as am on my 4 country European tour from tomorrow.
If its warm, enjoy!
