Drug and Alcohol testing

Personally if an employee turns up sober/straight for work all the time Ive no issues with what they do in their spare time.

.

Someone dropping pills at the weekend will be on a serious downer on a Mon/Tuesday it will effect their performance and ability to think straight. Same for coke us which is prevalent at the weekend. How do you know someone is sober - just because they seem in good doesnt mean their blood or head is.

Depends on whether you want your name & business ruined. As an employer you have to do as much as you can to prevent this kind of thing. If you know an employee is dabbling then legally you have to make a reasonable request that they are clean on a Monday morning.

Having employed someone once that didnt inform us that they were on Methadone, because their GP hadnt informed DVLA so copy of driving licence was clear - our insurance was invalid. Could of taken us down, he was also knocking back the wine but looked perfect in the morning! If he'd had a serious accident - he may be chucked in prison but our reputation mean we'd lose serious contracting contracts.

Sometimes the threat is enough for many.
