Have been using two drum mowers this week. A talex drum mower dad bought a couple of years ago and a 30+ year old niemeyer that hasnt been used for at least 15years. The niemeyer is hands down a better mower from what I've seen this week.

Have had 3 neimeyer drum mowers over the years, great mower but gear box issues did for each of them in the end.... all bought for a few hundred 2nd hand, the last one being a 7’ cut..... you had to start stop start the pto to get it going or it’d just stall the tractor!

Is that better top link on the tractor or link on the mower. There is some sort of damper on the mower that goes upto the top link that does not seem to be doing much. Local Claas dealer only wanted to sell me a new mower rather than sort my problem out.
Hope this helps it supposed to have a dampener too which may not be working properly

I think the dampener is part of the problem. Tried to explain to the Claas parts department and they quoted 1250 pounds for it. I know Claas parts are expensive but thought that is definetly not right. Could you enlarge the little diagram as I dont have that on my mower I presume it has been painted over at some time.

We run ours in the 3rd position to prevent a dig in like bull holes etc

A neighbour is mowing right now, with his old JF CMT 245. He's owned it from new and it's still immaculate.

I do like those old JF mowers, a neighbour of mine has 2 of them. One is a 1988 JF model and another is a 1995 MKII model branded as a JF Westmac. Both are great mowers and are pretty much bombproof, however I never like the strip that they leave down the middle due to the 3rd drum. If there was a way of solving that they would mow as clean as anything.

Sorry trying to bring to life an old thread here. Can you take the conditioner off one of these and use as a topper? I suppose if you can the downside will be only one height of work....

Sure can. If you can get the saucers off, you can fit spacers. Finding some spacers will be as easy as threading boiled spaghetti up a cat’s arse, so I’d recommend getting the cereal box out - make a stud pattern and cut out a set of your own from some plate steel.

Not very good at links but this should get you to "Capstick Comes Home" and there`s a line in there " he had a way with words mi father"
Your reference to the spaghetti reminded me of it - the name of the song is relevant too! ( Oh yes, and thanks!)

Best mower ever on this farm was an MF 70 mower conditioner, 7ft 6" twin drum, driven by a Ford 5000. Steel tines on rubber mounts for the conditioner unit, doing a gear higher than our neighbours Kidd on a 7610 with similar crop. Or near neighbour with Vicon 8ft on a Case 1694.
Best conditioner on a mower within three parishes but one heavy implement to lift. Only say as I see................... Others will no doubt say different.:cautious:
Drove one for while and it did a nice job - pretty sure they were 7ft not 7ft 6 - 84ins…grey plastic cover not yellow like tge 67in model. It was a beast to lift on slopes, replaced with a Taarup 307 which was a beaut
