My grass is succumbing to the heat now. Could do with another cut of silage, but not much rain in the forecast. Probably 10 days before they have silage full time, or nearly full time
How’s it looking round the country? Anybodys maize suffering yet?

Not to be a smug git but... heavy rain (thunder and lightening) for half an hour followed by steady rain for the past hour and still going 😁

Overcast and 5 minutes of drops here in Bude and on the border between Cornwall and some other place. Even had lightning!

Already spotted my first tassels in maize crops whilst some are really struggling.

Plenty of silage being fed around the place it seems.

First cut done here, now everything is brown and crispy. Was hoping for a second cut but looking doubtful. Feeding silage out in fields. Last rain of any amount was end of May, desperately needing some but nothing particularly exciting in the forecast. North Essex, although could be the Sahara.

Never seen it so dry down here. Been a dry winter, spring and summer in my opinion.

Had a decent first cut but terrible second cut to the point I'm grazing some of it now. Started feeding some 4 year old first cut that is my insurance policy out the back of the clamp. Should keep the cows going until it does rain properly.

Half tempted to cut cow numbers next year as alway feel like I'm searching for grass in the summer. Scanned 85% 6 week in calf rate yesterday so maybe not!

Dry weather really stresses me out when there are lots of hungry mouths to feed.

Had good bit of rain 3-4 weeks ago which gave us a good surplus but dried up now and feeding some silage to slow them down as anywhere grazed in the last two weeks hasn't grown back much at all. Had a few showers today but nothing much so far and forecast is dry for 2 weeks. East Devon.

Some maize locally thats got a big chunk in the middle that hasn;t come but our last real rain was first week of June, not much grass about. Been giving the sucklers a bale or so to pull at that we made a month ago.

Average June temp 16, July 19 so far.

Grass pretty much all gone on all the platforms. Will have everything home Sunday now to feed silage apart from some beef and the r1’s

maize still seems happy enough and amazingly the ground was still moist enough to make a ball a few days ago.

second cut was better than anticipated probably looking to sell 3rd unless we don’t see rain for 3/4 weeks

I'm in Anglesea, and there isn't bugger all grass from Wadebridge to here. Seen people feeding out in paddocks on our travels, and some not great looking maize crops. I can only think cow prices will have a lid put on them untill significant rain happens.
Ha, commercial Whorestein heifer made £3000 at sedgemoor on Saturday

Got a few tassels out in Warwickshire, crop sown 30th April.
Maize generally looking well, shrivelling in extreme heat but most is shoulder / head height (I'm 5'10")
Grass rapidly going from green to brown, cows have stayed in the shed & the shade for the first time since the continuous heat we had in 2018
