100% this should be something the NFU should be looking at.
we’re currently sending stuff in to feed mill max 16.5 with claims.
we seriously need more give and take through this supply chain stuff because at the moment our ‘industry leaders’ have given everything away for free.

15 was for intervention, which is long gone
Its just a waste of energy and time getting it down to 14 to be sure

Pedantic point but intervention in the 1980's was 14.5%. And I think it reduced to 14% in the 2000's. But I fully concurr with you initial observation of 16% and given the emphasis on reducing impact of Agriculture am surprised end users have not suggested a change to 16% as sold standard. A farmer could then dry drier if he wished. And in the south drying with ambient air there is sufficient time (days suitable) to get to 16% but to get below 15% often runs out of time. Be so much easier.

I sm putting wheat away now at 16.5% and getting screwed £16/ton and they will be wetting it to distill it
I think this kind of thing is absolutely ludicrous and a blatant raping of the producer. Most of these places don’t have any storage (hence all the lorry issues backing up) so there is really no excuse other than a money making scam. If they were storing for a long time then completely understandable.

HGCA (Before amalgamated into AHDB) undertook several research projects in the 90s and early 2000s looking at improving sampling techniques and attempting to understand variability. Just a couple of the reports attached. And link to webpages for more browsing if interested. Objective was to encourage a more collegiate approach from farmer sellers and end user buyers over the issue of variability - what is true variability. Quite an interesting mathematical project. Not really taken up.

Especially wasteful for distilling when they wet it anyway
I am sure they take it wetter in ireland where they have effective unions
Most grain in Ireland is sold " green " at 20 % mc . Deductions from the base price are 1 euro 50 cent a point above that .
The vast majority of independent merchants wouldnt get to excited if your " dry " deliveries were 16 or a little above . One i deal with the likes barley about 17 for rolling .
Another pays the dried price at 16 but will run out it through his own drier if its destined for N Ireland as the are always looking to avoid problems the northeners been sticklers for the rules red tractor , ufas etc .....
Especially if their is cheaper grain available !!!;);) You should be docked a max of a couple a quid a ton for your wheat if the want to be awkard but at 16 quid deduction you are been shafted
Time to get the IFA grain commitee on the job !!! Nothing like a picket and a blockade to concentrate the offenders mind !!
Right good crack on the picket line too ...

The large farmers running the nfu like to make life hard for the small guy
Like lowering moisture limits and starting farm assurance

I had a load rejected for ergot a couple of years ago. RT told me that my membership had been suspended until I could prove I’d got the problem sorted out. I told them I’d paid my membership and had a certificate and stickers that were still in date, but they informed me they can suspend the membership so that all destinations when entering your membership number at the weighbridge know you are suspended and can’t take your grain. That means if you haven’t paid up and they do that to you it won’t matter if you have in date stickers or not.

They are going to pay for this. The longer the theft goes on the more it will be.
I wouldn't want to be a guarantor of a wrong'un

i could have it gone before the next subscription is due!

when I was involved with nfu region we tried to negotiate with the trade on contract terms
the trade would not duscuss any change

if the uk becomes a permenant importer of cereals then we may have a chance

but imported grain is usually dryer
Australia the standard is as low as 12%
