Dump trailer

Looking for advice from the forum on ag dump trailers. I went to grassland to look at different brands with a view to buying a 10t Ag dump trailer. Looks to be between AW, Bailey and R Western. Waiting on quotes. Just wanted to ask re spec. I am going for a sprung drawbar partly to allow for the fact my tractor has a low hitch height and for subsequent adjustment but have a question about sprung axles versus bogie axles and also a Q about load sensitive valves on Hyd brakes. Are these major factors? I am hauling mainly horse muck every other month from a yard nearby (1.5 miles) with a tractor that does 40K so was going to go for 550/45/22.5 tyres. Do I need anti jacknife? And do \i need 560 tyres instead? Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Are you sure it's a dump trailer you need? They don't hold much compared to a grain trailer if you're intending to move horse muck

Yes I think so. A 10 t dump is the same volume as a 12t grain trailer from most of the specs I have looked at and the increased dump height combined with lack of tail gate is I think the right soloution for me?

Got to agree - dump trailers are usually with low waisted sides and capacity also based on stone weight = less available volume.

High sided trailer / grain trailer usually holds loads more. But they don't take the abuse of rocks, bashing with a 360 and hastle jumping off to open the tailgate

Exactly as @Zetor and others said a dump trailer will be no better than a ordinary trailer for what you are doing ,the muck will not stack no higher at the heap and will need pushing up to rot anyway, the dump trailer will have a lot higher tipped height due to where it is pivoted and will be a lot less stable at the heap due to this , i would consider a kane half pipe with 8mm floor will do both jobs and the spring drawbar arrangement with 2 coil springs @ £30 each is far better than 1 leaf at £400 that go flat anyway,i have a dump for soil and stone its great for but need a std trailer for muck as it don't hold enoughDSC_0837 (2).jpg and does not stack no higher than a std trailer

If your carting horse muck, then I'd just buy a cheap 14 tonne trailer as the floor will rot out of it in a couple of year and need replacing wether it's new or old. Grain trailers hold twice a sale much stuff, we did a muck shift with a14 tonne trailer and the other lads was on 14 tonne grain trailers doing the same job, they was getting 23 tonne in and i was getting 13.

I draw horse muck with a 10 t Redrock silage trailer, and it brings a great load , I have a 14 ton Redrock dump trailer that wouldn't bring a quarter of the silage trailer .

Yes but an Ag dump trailer still holds less volume due to the shape of the back than a grain trailer and it still tips higher = less stable :)

I if your carting muck you can't beat a agri dump they tip higher yes but it enables you to make a smaller higher heap rots much better.

I'd say go for big wheels best brakes you can get and a decent spring drawbar should be all gd then . We run a baileys had loads of abuse and handles it well, a grain trailer would struggle in my opinion.

Here is my " Agri" spec dump trailer it's a 10 tonne Fraser trailer and replaced a 16 tonne nc dump trailer the Fraser holds more dung and is easier to pull loaded than the nc ever was and the odd times I use it to haul say tarr plannings it will take 14 easy when the nc was overflowing at 10 tonne
