Dump trailer

Yes but an Ag dump trailer still holds less volume due to the shape of the back than a grain trailer and it still tips higher = less stable :)

Bailey dump trailer has a unique anti-jack knife system which, when tipping, automatically locks the tandem unit to give more stability.

Unless you are a complete Muppet, you shouldn't tip it over !

Got a 16 tonne agri spec Richard western dump trailer which is 1997 year built and still faultless apart from a few ram seals, for hauling yard muck, as said above you can stack the muck in a much smaller heap due to higher tipping. Get wide tyres and big brakes, I had commercial axles and brakes retro fitted to mine and will be putting 560 tyres on when funds allow. It also has rams that come down on the rear axle to stabilise when tipping which is a good job I think. @BSH

The other question @BSH asked was about sprung or rocking axles.

The haul is only about 1.5miles, so I would recommend rocking axles.

They are far more stable than springs, especially when tipping on a cross slope.

With a sprung drawbar at 40k, there won't be much degradation in ride comfort from rocking beams compared to springs.

If it was a longer haul I'd recommend sprung axles and careful tipping though.

As several above we've got a Bailey agri spec dump trailer. Anti jack knife system as Wooly says. Use it for beet and muck alongside the TB grain trailers and always tip the dumper loads 'on top' of the grain trailer loads. Very stable. Ours is a 12 ton which Bailey specs say has 16.48m3 capacity. Standard 12 ton grain Bailey the specs say 15.8m3, although ours and most I see have the 5 foot sides and standard spec is 4 foot on the 12 ton grain trailers.

Thanks all for the replies. I can see that a grain trailer wouldnt be a bad choice but the reason for getting a new trailer is that it is very difficult to find a trailer with flotation wheels in the size I am looking for and the work I want it to do is really only carting muck. i think a small dump trailer would have lower depreciation than a small grain trailer from what I can see, so I am more inclined to go for a 10t agricutlural dump trailer like the bailey or similar. The standard anti jack knife feature on the Bailey sounds like a good idea. I have no need of an industrial dump trailer and wouldnt want eh extra weight of the build even with extension sides as per the post above.

as above the rocking axles are more stable than a spring system , difference in ride quality is massive though , if you end up using the trailer a lot once you have it i think you'd regret not having the springs
