would fodder beet help as a first crop after grass because neo nics still allowed in dressing?

I had a field (out of pp) that was near wiped out by wireworm, two years on the trot. I put it into swedes the following year, which the little buggers didn't like much. By the following year the wireworm population had reduced enough to not cause any issues.
I put WB after that, which was hammered by BYDV instead. One day, maybe that field will pay for it's rent.:(

Not that I'd suggest that Dursban would have had any effect against wireworm or anything of course..... It killed the leatherjackets well though.

Useful technical note from the college. Although now out of date as advises chemical treatment but no chlorpyrifos now.

Is there an alternative now it's banned @Brisel or anybody else have any ideas ?

Best seed bed you can get + higher seed rate. Use to be able to use Draza to kill leatherjackets but that went a while ago, too.

Some talk that rolling helps prevent the leather-jackets moving through the dirt, not sure what to think of that.

I've seen leatherjackets attack stuff above ground and below.
