Dusty machinery on the roads

It's always a first but for me yesterday I pulled out a field pretty much straight onto a dual carrageway with the big baler and couldn't have got more than 300m and had blue lights behind me. Bugger pulled me over for leaving a trail of dust...
Obviously I go round poking off all the loose. It's just the fine dust that's sits everywhere on a baler, I've got for the 1st time this year a rechargeable blower that typically I left changing and forgot but never had one before so don't usually get a blow down before hitting the road.
Do others go to the trouble of thoroughly cleaning down before going on the road or just accept that after half a mile it's all but gone.

Plod were obviously having an easy afternoon!!

Did they book you? As I would imagine the fiscal would be pissing themselves laughing, unless you were actually blinding following drivers with clouds of dust.

tractors with air on with a coil of pipe and a blow gun or a leaf blower only takes a few mins to blow down, keep the mess/weeds in the field also keeps machinery clear from chaf/dust which will help prevent fires

“If without lawful authority or excuse a person deposits anything whatsoever on a highway to the interruption of any user of the highway he is guilty of an offence” Highways Act 1980.

Has much changed in the last 38 years.?.

I came down A303 last friday and a lorry and drag pulled on at a junction with straw and it was around a mile before I could overtake and I was really surprised how much was blowing off his load and for how long. In deed the two cars in front with their roofs down were getting very upset !!

How long before they insist that straw has to be sheeted on the road? As others have said, it’s amazing how much straw blows of open trucks

Few years back i pulled out of a field and pretty much straight onto the A19, which for those further south is busier than the A1
Had cleaned all the obvious loose stuff off ( had been cutting barley )
Then from somewhere a big lump of barley horns dropped off just as a BMW convertible was going past
Had a job keeping straight I was laughing that much
