Dutch dairy cows.

Do you ever go and look or just have them sent straight to you and let the company pick them for you?

I picked the first 40 we bought in Ireland and I picked the flecks but there was a balls up with the authorities so didn't get them.

So in answer yes I've bought loads unseen. It's not ideal but it's not the end of the world. The best ones here are the ones I've picked though ..... that's not to say the dealers don't pick what you want but there will always be the odd one that slips in that shouldn't be there

Regarding you get what you pay for, we imported some dutch heifers, ordered and paid for first quality, stressed time and time again they had to be the best, we got a load of sh1t, it took months, but we got our money back and they had the heifers back.

You were lucky you dealt with a better company than me ....like you I stressed that I had been in this business a long time and was quite aware of what first class heifers looked like
You will be pleased I will send only the best ......ended up with a load of shite....
He was told in no certain terms of what they were ....would he take them back .....never did
Lesson learned......never trust anyone .......

Oh I would add to through a spanner in the works - hands down the worst load of cows we ever ever had came from a forum member who just ignored the problem. Gigantic stroker.

One animal was in such poor shape I culled her the week after she arrived on realising that he wasnt going to stand by them.

We had also seen these before hand. And he basically just showed the nice ones and sent the sh!t.

Unless you see them loaded you still fecked!

Annoys me because I tend to be overly honest when sellubg calves

Yes to a degree, it was dads deal so I just remind him why he's not allowed to go and buy cows anymore  we didn't feel public slagging off would have made any difference. It would seem that karma bit a little when he erected a new shed and the panels were not as he wanted it.

My favourite quote from him though was
"Myself and my cow man saw no issue with her condition to travel an 8 hour journey" I suggested if he saw no issue with the cow then that may well be why he was giving up milking

I've never paid for a cow from Ireland until I've milked her. So if your not happy just pay what you think she's worth.

So do you have them delivered before you pay?

No payment up front ?
I milk them before I pay........yes they get delivered 1st. Who would dream of buying something any other way. I won't pay the market until I've milked them.

If bought as in calf, then I won't pay until our vet has pd them.
I can't believe anyone would do it any other way.
