Sadly only into stale seedbeds at the mo but hope to try it straight into covers in springDD would be good please.
Looks good Russ, take it thats the 2.5" point you used? This is no-till Spring barley direct in to some nasty heavy ground after covers from April this year.
Yes it was, we switched between the 5 & 2.5" this Autumn for different situations, but seed placement is A1 with them.Looks good Russ, take it thats the 2.5" point you used?
Do you mind me asking what it cost to convert the drill ? PM if you prefer .We put the Dutch openers on our sprinter this year, direct drilled all the spring barley with good results and have direct drilled a lot of osr, wheat and covers with it this Autumn. Run the 2.5 & 5" points, I prefer the 2.5" as it disturbs much less, the gap between plant stands comes down to 18cm in the end so not quite as wide as it could be. Transformed the drill & allowing us to convert to no-till at a relatively low cost with what we've got.
Hi Andrew, prefer the narrower ones for lower disturbance and spring drilling, the 5" ones work well in most situations, just mindful that they do disrupt a bit more. When do you head for the 5" points in preference to 2.5" Russ?
Different animal the Metcalfes. 12mm tines over 6 metres. This was spring barley. Are the Matcalf's low disturbance much different to these Dutch openers?
Went to Midland Machinery show on Thursday and Pan Anglia had the dutch coulters for sale at £65 each for the leg and £65 for the 5" coulter. Can't remember how much the 2" coulters were but were similarly priced.Do you mind me asking what it cost to convert the drill ? PM if you prefer .
Do you need any kind of adaptor to fit Dutches on or do they fit straight on the existing leg ??Went to Midland Machinery show on Thursday and Pan Anglia had the dutch coulters for sale at £65 each for the leg and £65 for the 5" coulter. Can't remember how much the 2" coulters were but were similarly priced.
How much easier to pull is the drill on 5" Dutches V duetts ??Had Dutch openers for 2 autumns now. Use 5 inch paired for cereals and cover crops, drilled around 1800 acres with a set on wearing ground. Massive reduction in hp requirement and creates less banding than duets. Watch depth control on different soils as can sometimes put in deeper than you think. Have direct drilled all my covers straight into stubble with good results. 1 inch point good for d drilled beans though outlets are small enough for bridging of seed.
Overall impressed with them. Pan anglia seem to offer more than sumo on choice and better prices.
The point mounting piece had 16mm holes but my older co4 had 12mm holes in legs and bolts so had to get some sleeves turned to adapt the holes down to 12mm.Do you need any kind of adaptor to fit Dutches on or do they fit straight on the existing leg ??..
The leg adapter part I quoted at £65 bolts onto the sprinter leg then the point bolts onto that. It should be available to view on the pan anglia website.Do you need any kind of adaptor to fit Dutches on or do they fit straight on the existing leg ??
I had been looking at the Borgault opener Brocks are selling, but they are more expensive than that..
On our soil it used to be 50 to 60 hp per m on the old duets. Now I reckon 40hp per m would be comfortable in wet conditions. How much easier to pull is the drill on 5" Dutches V duetts ??
