@adj132 How are you getting on with all of the above after a couple of seasons? Looking to do the same, Cotswold brash being the soil type!! Many thanks.
Really well, I've just worn out the first set on 5 inches they go on forever. Much cheaper to run and way less bothersome maintainence like with the duetts

Thanks @ajd132, really helpful! So you stay on 5" for OSR, wheat and beans? Would reducing to 2.5" for OSR reduce soil movement, aiding blackgrass management, without compromising establishment? Cheers

Why do people worry about moving to much soil for osr crops and not for wheat?
You want to get that blackgrass growing in the osr as you have more ways of killing it.
Wheats different altogether I know.

Has anyone tried direct drilling wheat with 1 inch point ,thought they might move less soil than the 5 inch point but not sure if spacing would be to wide

To give you an idea here’s some spring wheat drilled with 2” Dutch after 3 weeks....

I’ve drilled cereals direct with mine on metcalfe points and I find the 250mm rows too wide. It didn’t yield as well as conventional and is more blackgrass in the rows.

so if one is converting a horsch drill do you go for dutch or Metcalfe?thoughts please
Dutch all the way , far stronger and more versatile , we have 1" 2" and 5" direct drilling osr with 2" we have direct drilled wheat and beans but cant afford yield drops (not the openers fault)

About to buy a set on openers for cereal drilling. I direct drill and will only use them for cover crops and cereals after cereals which is rare, neighbour who shares drill min tils and has been using duetts. What would be the most suitable width and style? ie. open or paired 3,4 or 5 inch?
